Golf fans hoping to watch Scottie Scheffler this week will be disappointed as the star opted to skip the RBC Canadian Open. The wait will not last long as Scheffler will be looking to win his second straight major at the U.S. Open in the coming days.

Scheffler and an impressive field of golfers will tee off from Oakmont Country Club in Oakmont, Pa., on June 12. The RBC Canadian Open is not without stars as Rory McIlroy headlines the field of golfers with Scheffler choosing to skip the event.
It is unclear exactly why Scheffler opted not to play in the RBC Canadian Open. With the U.S. Open less than one week away, it would make sense if Scheffler preferred to prepare for the major with some extra days of rest.

Scheffler is coming off a win at the Memorial and also secured a win at the PGA Championship, the last major tournament. The star golfer may not be competing this week but is already committing to future events.
The Scottish Open announced on Friday that Scheffler will be part of the star-studded field for the tournament that tees off on July 9. Scheffler believes playing in the Memorial will serve as great preparation for the U.S. Open at Oakmont.
"Well, this golf course, like Oakmont, I think this is a place where if there's a weakness in your game, this golf course is going expose it pretty quick," Scheffler told reporters on Sunday after winning the Memorial. "It's a challenging week and this is always a good barometer of where you're at playing because, I mean, each day on the course -- I think the first two days you had guys shoot 65. I think the best round on Saturday was 66 and the best round today was 65.

"... That's what I think is great about this golf course, is there's opportunity and there's good difficulty. As far as prep work for the U.S. Open, I mean, like you said, the rough's going to be pretty similar and I think it's great prep."
