Raising Cane's celebrates Rockford opening
ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) – Rockford residents will no longer have to drive 35 to 40 miles to cool their desire for fresh hot chicken fingers from Raising Cane's. 'I am very excited,' said customer Catherine Kelley, of Rockford. 'This is the first one that's here in the Rockford area.' Raising Cane's is set to open Tuesday, April 15, on the southwest corner of East State Street and South Trainer Road. Until that day, the closest locations were in DeKalb and Janesville, Wisconsin. 'We've been expanding our restaurants across Illinois, and we finally expanded to Rockford,' said Lidia Soto, Raising Cane's area leader of restaurants. 'And we have a big group of crew members who are super excited and thrilled and just ready to rock and serve our incredible chicken-finger meals.' The opening comes six months ahead of schedule. 'This building has a double-lane drive-thru, as well as a spacious dining room,' Soto said. 'And we also have an outdoor seating area, which is perfect, in time for spring.' The menu at Raising Cane's is a focused one. The customer favorite is the Box Combo: four chicken fingers with Cane's Sauce, fries, Texas toast, and coleslaw. 'The toast is probably my favorite part,' said Rockford resident Sierra Gregg, who grabbed lunch Monday during the Raising Cane's corporate training event. 'The fries are always good. And the chicken is great with the sauce and the coleslaw brings it all together.' The 3,225 square-foot will be open from 10 a.m. to 1:30 a.m., Sunday through Thursday and 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 a.m., Friday and Saturday. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. People Are Sharing The Fast Food Items They Think Are Wayyyy Overhyped, And The Fries Are Piping Hot
Remember when fast food was actually cheap and pretty good? Ah, those were the good ol' days. Now, it feels like most fast food is expensive and average-tasting at best — and I know I'm not the only one who thinks so. People on Reddit are sharing the most overhyped fast food restaurants, and I'm honestly curious about what you think of these. I've rounded up 18 of the most impassioned responses below: 1. "Panera is fast food for people who say they don't like how unhealthy fast food is but don't actually care about being healthy. I swear the amount of fat (and therefore calories) in everything they offer is ridiculous." 2. "McDonald's. It's not cheap. It's not fast. It's not good. Whatever I want that McDonalds sells, someone has a better one. And it probably costs about the same or less." 3. "Wendy's recently. I have had numerous bad experiences, which sucks because they used to be my favorite. But between the rise in price and the lack of quality, it's just not worth it for me to continue to patronize their business." 4. "As an Oklahoman, Sonic used to be good. Then it got bought out by Arby's parent company (you might want to fact check that). Most of the sides are still good, and the drinks are good. It's too bad the actual food went from mid to borderline bad. (Except for the footlong chili cheese coney, that didn't change)." 5. "Carl's Jr. I used to live in that place. Now it's $18 for a chicken sandwich, and the quality went to shit." 6. "Raising Cane's chicken has been described to me BY RAISING CANES FANS as merely a 'Cane's Sauce delivery vehicle.' Again, this was the best description FANS of the brand could give me. Because they primarily make chicken, and the chicken is pretty tasteless, yet somehow, they're opening up a new one on every other block." 7. "I travel a lot. The best and most consistent fast food in America is the taco truck/trailer/stand. Regular American fast food has reached a new low in the last few years. Even a simple hot dog surrender now has about a 75% chance of being a major disappointment." 8. "Starbucks is so famous for burning their beans that one of Hawaii's largest Kona coffee plantations stopped selling to them. They said, 'Our beans are too good. we're not going to let Starbucks over-roast them anymore.'" 9. "Whataburger was the first place I went after I got my driver's license in 2013, and that was one of the last times it was the best. Whenever I visit AZ, I'll still get it, but it's never been the same. Still got love for that green chili double, though." 10. "A Chipotle opened in my town recently to much hype and fanfare. I tried it, and it was way more disappointing than the other four burrito places within a 2 kilometer radius." 11. "I grew up in California getting In-N-Out somewhat regularly. It's a decent burger for a decent price, but not anything spectacular. And the fries are absolute garbage." 12. "Zaxby's. Steamed fries, soggy toast, and a couple of nugget-sized 'tenders' is not it." 13. "Dunkin. I'm a New Englander, so we have them eeeeeeeverywhere. I want to love them. I really do. But the food they have is pretty terrible not to mention the coffee." 14. "Subway. Who the fuck wants to eat a sandwich you can make yourself at home? I never seen the appeal in Subway, especially when there are so many good delis out there." 15. "Taco Bell, was great when you could eat for five bucks. Now, it costs more than a real Mexican restaurant." 16. "KFC. Used to love their zinger burgers, but it's just so unbelievably salty now. Their cheese fries were AMAZING until they decided to change the chip type." 17. "Wingstop. Ate there recently when I was craving something spicy. Easily the worst wings I've ever had. The 'atomic,' or whatever the hottest is called, was very manageable in heat, but tasted like absolute trash. The other flavors we got weren't any better. Disgusting wings overall, especially for a dedicated wing place."
