New Canon Precentor welcomed at Carlisle Cathedral
CARLISLE Cathedral officially welcomed its new Canon Precentor.
After a service of welcome last week, The Revd Pete Gunstone and his wife Kirsten joined the Cathedral community.
Carlisle Cathedral wrote: 'Pete joins us as our new Canon Precentor. He will take a lead role in liturgy and congregational life and a full role in worship and the governance of the Cathedral.
'Thank you to everyone who attended Sunday's (June 15) special service, and to the Bradford Cathedral Choir for performing with our choristers.'
The Revd Pete Gunstone said: 'Kirsten and I are delighted to be moving to Carlisle after six very happy years serving in the Diocese of Leeds.
'I look forward to getting to know the people of Carlisle and Cumbria, to inhabiting the Augustinian rhythms of the Cathedral community, and to joining with you in the adventure of following Jesus Christ today.'
A Canon Precentor is a senior clergy member in a cathedral, they oversee the planning, preparation, and execution of services.
