McConville and Best secure second Special Olympics golds
Caolan McConville and Lucy Best have secured their second skiing gold medals in as many days for Team Ireland at the Special Olympics World Winter Games in Italy,After topping the podium in the giant slalom Final on Wednesday, they dominated the Super G event on Thursday, with Caolán securing gold in the advanced division with a time of 33.10 seconds and Lucy claiming victory in the novice division at 41.39 seconds. McConville, 21, from Aghagallon in County Antrim, is the first Team Ireland athlete to compete in the advanced division in alpine skiing and was competing in the advanced Super G category for only the second time."It's absolutely amazing. I've only done the Super G once before, and that was in the European Games – so no practice before, but I came out with gold. I'm absolutely delighted," said is McConville's second Games appearance after competing as a 13-year-old in Austria in 2017, where he won a silver and bronze 33, from Ballinderry, said her second success of the Games felt "amazing"."I'm so glad I got another gold medal, I'm just really pleased," said Best."To any young athletes out there starting out, I'd say go for it, work hard, and you could get a gold medal like me."

Caolan McConville and Lucy Best won skiing gold medals for Team Ireland at the Special Olympics World Winter Games in Italy on Wednesday. McConville, from Aghagallon in County Antrim, triumphed in the advanced giant slalom final in Turin with a time of one minute 15.04 seconds. The 21-year-old was initially entered in the intermediate event before being promoted to the advanced category on Tuesday. McConville became the first Team Ireland athlete to compete in the advanced division in alpine was McConville's second Games appearance after competing as a 13-year-old in Austria in 2017, where he won a silver and bronze medal. Ballinderry's Best, 33, also topped the podium in the novice division, completing her run in 1:59.03.
