These Jersey Shore bridges have gone cashless; here's how to pay the toll fares
When you head to the Jersey Shore this holiday weekend, you might not need to make that ATM run, at least not for bridge fare. The Cape May County Bridge Commission has introduced all-electronic tolling on five area bridges. According to a commission spokesperson, the transition to cashless tolling began May 11. Bridge tolls are now being charged using E-ZPass and toll-by-plate. Drivers will either have the appropriate toll amount deducted from their E-ZPass account balance or bills will be mailed to them after a photo is taken of their license plate when crossing the toll lane. Corsons Inlet Bridge. Townsends Inlet Bridge. Grassy Sound Bridge. Middle Thorofare Bridge. Travelers with bridge tickets were notified via the commission's website that the tickets will no longer be accepted. Instead, they can be sold back to the commission for a refund of $1.20 per ticket. All tickets are to be returned by June 30, either in person from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at the front desk, or via mail to the Cape May County Bridge Commission at 4 Moore Road, Cape May Court House, 08210. Those wishing to return bridge tickets are asked to fill out the CMCBC Ticket Buyback Form available on the commission's website. Cape May County Zoo mourns death of 20-year-old black bear Cody
The Cape May County Parks and Zoo is mourning the death of a beloved 20-year-old American black bear. In a news release Tuesday, the zoo said the bear named Cody was euthanized due to declining health. "No matter what kind of day a keeper had, he always put a smile on their face," a Cape May County Parks and Zoo spokesperson said in a news release. "He was enthusiastic when training and always cooperated to shift, even when he was intent on following his keepers wherever they went. The keepers will fondly remember high-fives with him and will keep those memories in their hearts. " Cape May County Zoo Cody had lived at the zoo since 2005. A spokesperson said Cody was a staff favorite because of his laid-back personality. The zoo added that Cody loved to munch on peanut butter snacks, swim and nap in the shade. The average lifespan of a black bear is 10 years, but they can live up to 30 years in the wild and captivity.
