Hera Pheri 3: Teary-Eyed Akshay Kumar Asks After Actor's Exit, "Priyan, Why Is Paresh Doing This To Us?"

New Delhi: The conversation around the Hera Pheri 3 controversy refuses to die. Akshay Kumar's production company Cape Of Good Films sued Paresh Rawal for Rs 25 crore after he confirmed his exit from the film through an X post (May 18). While Paresh Rawal claimed in a Mid-Day interview that he informed director Priyadarshan and other actors about his exit, Priyadarshan refuted those claims. Moreover, the director shared that Akshay Kumar had tears in his eyes after he came to know about Paresh Rawal's sudden exit. "All our contracts were signed. Ten days ago, Suniel, Akshay, and Paresh shot a scene and the IPL [Indian Premier League] teaser. It was only after we unanimously agreed to do Hera Pheri 3 that Akshay bought the franchise's rights. Akshay had tears in his eyes when he asked me, 'Priyan, why is Paresh doing this to us?' Akshay shouldn't suffer financial losses because Paresh walked out on a whim. I understand that he will have to take whatever action is required," Priyadarshan told Mid-Day, supporting Akshay's legal action against him. A couple of days ago, Paresh Rawal told Mid-Day that Priyadarshan tried to "change his mind" after he revealed his decision of walking out. Refuting the claim, Priyadarshan said nothing of that sort happened. "I didn't try to stop him because he never told me that he was leaving the project. When I tried calling him, he texted, saying, 'Please don't call me. This is my decision and it has nothing to do with you.' He also wrote that we should work together again. With me, Akshay has never cut down anybody's role. He does not interfere with a director's vision at all," said Priyadarshan. Rumours were swirling that Paresh Rawal quit Hera Pheri 3 as he was unhappy with the remuneration. Paresh Rawal confirmed the rumours when he shared a post on X (May 18) about quitting the film. He clarified in his post that he didn't quit the film due to "creative differences." Sharing their absolute "zero-knowledge" about Paresh Rawal's move, Priyadarshan told Mid-Day, "I am very hurt and shocked as Paresh didn't inform any of us. He could have picked up the phone and told me before telling the media because we've been friends for years. Until last week, we shot Bhooth Bangla together with Akshay." He added, "[After his announcement], Paresh sent me a message saying, 'Priyan sir, I have nothing against you. I have a lot of respect for you, but I have my reasons for not doing the film.'" Hera Pheri 3 is the sequel to the 2000 hit film Hera Pheri. The second instalment was released in 2006. Hera Pheri 3 was announced in 2023. Earlier this year, Priyadarshan was confirmed as the director of the film.

Toh meri baat hi nahi hui hai (I am as shocked as you are. I spoke to him for only a second and he asked to meet. We haven't been able to meet and talk yet)." The actor added,"Humne trailer shoot kiya hua hai. Toh pata nahi kya hua. Warna Paresh ji aise hain nahi. Kabhi bhi public platform pe announce nahi karte kyuki main, Paresh ji aur Akshay (Kumar) aise (united) hain when it comes to Hera Pheri. Bohot hi charged the (We have shot the trailer, so I don't know what happened. Otherwise, Paresh ji is not like this. He wouldn't have announced it on a public platform. Me, Paresh ji and Akshay are united when it comes to Hera Pheri. He was quite charged)." Suniel Shetty also shared,"Kuch filmo ko le ke main bohot hi charged tha, Welcome, Awara Pagal Deewana, Hera Pheri. Maine yahi socha tha ki aur kuch nahi karoonga. Ek aad film aisi (Kesari Veer) aayegi toh karoonga, warna sequels karoonga. Lekin this is heartbreaking (I was very charged about films like Welcome, Awara Pagal Deewana and Hera Pheri. I thought I would only do sequels now, unless a film like Kesari Veer comes up. This is heartbreaking)." Earlier, when Suniel Shetty came to know about Paresh Rawal's exit during a film promotion in Delhi, he told India Today, "This is a crisis. We are in the middle of this film, and this is the biggest shock." "We were going to begin shooting next year. We had already started, in fact. We shot a promo. It's a big thing. This is so shocking. I can't make sense of this. And you know who sent it? Athiya and Ahaan - they both sent it to me within 15 minutes, asking 'papa what is this?'. And I was here doing my interviews, and I felt like 'holy s***', added Suniel Shetty. Akshay, Suniel Shetty and Paresh Rawal had begun shooting for the film under veteran director Priyadarshan in April this year. Akshay had bought the rights for Hera Pheri 3 from producer Feroz Nadiadwala and he's one of the producers of the film. Hera Pheri 3 is the sequel to the 2000 hit film Hera Pheri. The second instalment was released in 2006. Hera Pheri 3 was announced in 2023. Earlier this year, Priyadarshan was confirmed as the director of the film.

Hera Pheri 3: Akshay Kumar's Production House Claims Paresh Rawal Accepted Rs 11 Lakh Signing Amount

New Delhi: Days after Akshay Kumar sued Paresh Rawal for Rs 25 crore as damages for leaving Hera Pheri 3 shoot midway, his production house Cape Of Good Films has issued a long statement, detailing the legal aspects of this suing. The statement mentioned that Paresh Rawal had accepted Rs 11 lakh signing amount. It cited that Paresh Rawal didn't express his dissatisfaction at any point of time during the initial shoot of the film. The legal document also issued a warning, saying, if Paresh Rawal didn't deposit Rs 25 crore within seven days, civil and criminal actions would be initiated against him. The statement mentioned that he Paresh Rawal himself announced that he was a part of Hera Pheri 3 via an X post on January 30. "Mr Rawal had publicly acknowledged his participation in the film on 30th January 2025 via a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle. He further formalised his commitment by executing a Term Sheet dated 27th March 2025, pursuant to which he accepted a part payment of Rs 11,00,000/- towards his remuneration. Acting in complete reliance on his public endorsement and contractual commitment, Cape of Good Films incurred substantial production and promotional expenditures, including those for the teaser and initial film shoot, in which Mr Rawal actively participated," it read. The notice said that the teaser was shot on April 3, and Paresh Rawal shot more than 3-minutes of the footage. "The teaser shoot commenced on 3rd April 2025, and over 3 minutes of footage was shot with Mr Rawal. He also engaged in creative discussions and planning with fellow cast members, including Mr Akshay Kumar and Mr Suniel Shetty. At no point during this period were any concerns raised by Mr Rawal regarding creative issues," it said. Akshay's company has claimed that Paresh's sudden exit incurred heavy losses on his production house. It further read, "It is only after these significant investments and scheduling commitments were made that Mr Rawal abruptly attempted to exit the project, citing vague and belated creative differences. Cape of Good Films firmly believes that this justification is an afterthought, contrived to inflict maximum disruption on a beloved film franchise and undermine the goodwill it commands. "The sudden and unjustified withdrawal has caused severe financial loss, disrupted schedules, and jeopardised the momentum of a high-value production. In view of this, Cape of Good Films has demanded damages to the tune of Rs 25 crores from Mr Rawal. If the demand is not complied with within seven days, the company will be constrained to pursue appropriate legal remedies, including civil and criminal action." On May 18, Paresh Rawal confirmed his exit from the film through an X post. He clarified that he didn't leave the film due to "creative issues." On May 20, a Hindustan Times report claimed that Akshay Kumar has sent a legal notice to Paresh Rawal demanding Rs 25 crore as damages through his production company. Following the sue, Paresh Rawal told Mid-Day that he informed Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty and Priyadarshan about his decision. However, Suniel Shetty and Priyadarshan said they were "clueless" about Mr Rawal's exit in different interviews.

When Paresh Rawal Said He Got Stuck With Hera Pheri Character Baburao: " Dum Ghutta Hai"

New Delhi: Paresh Rawal has been embroiled in controversy after Akshay Kumar sued him for Rs 25 crore as he left Hera Pheri 3 midway. Akshay's production company Cape Of Good Films, reportedly, sent him a legal notice two days (May 20) after he confirmed his exit from the film through an X post (May 18). Meanwhile, an old interview of Paresh Rawal has been doing the rounds on social media where Paresh Rawal said his Hera Pheri character Baburao feels like a "gale ka phanda" (a tight noose) to him as he has been stuck with that image for years. In an interview with The Lallantop a few weeks ago, Paresh Rawal confessed that even he takes up the role of Baburao in the sequel, he doesn't feel "happy" from within. When asked how many times he gets the compliment for his cult role of Baburao in Hera Pheri (2000) even after 25 years of its release, the film veteran shared a few anecdotes. "I went to Vishal Bhardwaj [director] in 2007. In 2006, Hera Pheri 2 was released. I told him that I have a film. I want to get rid of this image. You are the person who can offer me a completely different role in the same getup," revealed Mr Rawal. When Vishal Bhardwaj asked him why he wanted to get rid of this image, the actor said, "Whoever comes to me, he has an image of Hera Pheri in mind. I am an actor. I don't want to get stuck at one place." Then Paresh Rawal described the storyline of the film titled Dancer In The Dark where the protagonist wore a similar spectacle like Paresh Rawal wore in Hera Pheri, hinting at a possibility of a new character within the same trope. However, when Vishal Bhardwaj rejected his offer as he's not inclined to make remakes, Paresh Rawal approached R Balki for an out-of-the-box character. "I asked him to offer me a new character in the same getup. I felt happy but dum ghutta hai (I felt choked). I need mukti (liberation) from that role," Paresh Rawal admitted. Paresh Rawal also criticised the Bollywood trend of making sequels only to spin money. "For instance, Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. and Lage Raho Munna Bhai - the two films have different trajectories as they picked up different subjects with the same protagonists," explained Paresh Rawal. Referring to his Hera Pheri character, Paresh Rawal added, "It's a 500 crore goodwill character. If a maker wants, he can upscale the character to a different height. But people have either mental bankruptcy or mental lethargy to take a plunge." Take a look at the video here: Paresh Rawal shared a post on X, clarifying that he didn't leave Hera Pheri 3 over creative differences or money issues. He claimed that he had informed director Priyadarshan and co-actors Akshay Kumar and Suniel Shetty about his decision of quitting the film. However, Priyadarshan and Suneil Shetty told in public that they were not informed.
