Major New Hotel Opens in Baghdad
By John Lee.
The Iraqi Prime Minister inaugurated the Al-Zaytoon Baghdad / Mövenpick Hotel on Saturday, marking a partial opening of its main facilities in preparation for the upcoming Arab Summit in Baghdad.
PM Mohammed S. Al-Sudani highlighted that the hotel is one of the largest private sector projects in tourism and hospitality in the capital. He reaffirmed the government's full support for private sector initiatives that drive economic growth, create employment opportunities, and strengthen essential tourism infrastructure, especially as Baghdad celebrates its designation as the Capital of Arab Tourism for 2025.
Touring the hotel's facilities, Al-Sudani praised the quality of construction and adherence to project timelines despite the challenges faced. He reiterated the government's commitment to backing all tourism-related developments to meet Baghdad's increasing demand for hotels, resorts, and tourist attractions.
He emphasised that Baghdad is undergoing rapid development across all sectors and is evolving into a major regional and international destination for hosting events.
Swiss-based Mövenpick is fully owned by Accor of France.
