Texas Department of Public Safety closes Capitol grounds following 'credible threat' to lawmakers
The Texas Department of Public Safety announced on X that they have evacuated the Texas Capitol building and surrounding grounds. The evacuation came after Texas DPS discovered a credible threat to lawmakers. The same lawmakers who were threatened were planning on attending a protest later today. The Texas DPS also announced that both the capitol and grounds will remain temporarily closed while the threat is under investigation. Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick posted on X to heed the warning and take the threat seriously. "I urge everyone to take appropriate precautions and heed the warning of the Texas Department of Public Safety until the threat is no longer active," Patrick said on X. "Just today, a credible threat was made to possibly kill members of the Texas Legislature at the Capitol." Patrick also said on X that while lawmakers receive threats and emails monthly, each must be taken seriously. "There's a difference between free speech complaints, which we welcome, and making death threats. The latter can be a crime. What happened today in Minnesota was an absolute criminal act and a tragic loss of life. Our prayers go out to those in Minnesota," Patrick said on X. Protests are currently happening throughout the country. The day is being described as a "day of defiance" against President Donald Trump and his allies. These protestors say they are defending democracy and are opposed to what they call Trump's "authoritarian" rule. These protests come on the same day Trump has planned the 250th anniversary parade of the army in Washington D.C. The Texas DPS is currently working with their law enforcement partners to investigate the matter. Fox News Digital's Michael Dorgan contributed to this story.

Texas DPS warns state lawmakers of "credible threat" at "No Kings" protest in Austin
The Texas Department of Public Safety warned state legislators of a "credible threat" against them during Saturday's "No Kings" protest at the state Capitol building. According a bulletin sent to lawmakers early Saturday afternoon, obtained by Eye On Politics reporter Jack Fink, authorities "are working with our law enforcement partners and are leveraging all available resources to address this threat." CBS Austin reported that the Capitol and grounds were evacuated at 1 p.m. Saturday due to the threats. The protest at the Texas Capitol is scheduled for 5 p.m., according to the "No Kings" website. It was not immediately clear if the event would continue as planned. The bulletin also mentioned the targeted attacks against two lawmakers in Minnesota. State Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband were killed, and state Sen. John Hoffman and his wife were wounded in politically motivated shootings overnight, Gov. Tim Walz said Saturday morning. "Currently, it seems to be an isolated incident. However, we're always concerned about copycats and those who this attack might inspire. Your safety is our top priority, and we are taking all necessary precautions to address any potential threats," the bulletin said.

Salt Lake's best romantic overlooks and make-out spots
When it comes to make-out spots, Salt Lake has enjoyed an embarrassment of riches since around 35,000,000 B.C. That's when the Wasatch Mountains were formed by something called a " thrust belt." (Have fun with that one.) The latest: Since then, we've gotten cars and parking lots and, apparently, many hot people. Here's where to take them for a night above the town. But before you go, here's a reality check on how not to break Utah laws while making out in public. 🌅 13th Avenue A short walk from 11th Avenue Park, this sleepy road provides privacy and — if you arrive at the right time — a climax of panoramic sunset views of the Salt Lake Valley. 🏛️Capitol Hill The overlook between the eastern side of the Capitol Building and Memory Grove Park offers attractive views of the mountains and the Upper Avenues. Tip: You can walk down to the park if you need to cool off. 🌄 H Rock & Pencil Point SLC's East Bench is fun to explore, with some unobstructed cul-de-sacs and on-street parking — without a ton of surrounding traffic. Near the H Rock, check out Lakeline Drive just before the trailhead (above Wasatch Drive near the 1800-South line). Below that, Scenic Drive north of 2100 South is even better as it approaches the green space on the mountain. Farther south, below Pencil Point Peak, there's an overlook at the south end of Scenic Drive. Other spots The Park & Ride lot at Wasatch Boulevard and 6200 South has great views to the west, even if it's close to a lot of traffic. Fine for hand-holding and cuddling. Folks seem to love the Mount Olympus and Grandeur Peak trailheads; we weren't wild about the fencing or parking barricades, but you do you. The gate at Grandeur is locked at 10pm. We've heard good things about the Potato Hill and Silver Flower trailheads and the Salt Lake County Flight Park in Draper but haven't visited ourselves. Same for the Bacchus Highway near the Bingham Copper Mine. The west side of the valley misses the sunset, but you'll get to see the moon rise over the looming mountains. Also, you can't go wrong on a road named for a fertility god. We know this is unconventional, but we agree with this Reddit user on the Primary Children's Hospital's parking lot for its pretty cityscape vista.
