Alex Cappa has found a new home but not in Tampa Bay with the Bucs

Alex Cappa has found a new home but not in Tampa Bay with the Bucs Raiders are signing former Bengals guard Alex Cappa to a two-year, $11.2 million deal that includes $5.5 million fully guaranteed at signing. — Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) March 5, 2025 The Tampa Bay Buccaneers drafted Alex Cappa in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft and had him on their team from 2018 to 2021. He played a big part in helping the offensive line allow a league-low 23 sacks in 2021. Of course, in 2020, Cappa started all 16 games at right guard and helped the Buccaneers win Super Bowl LV. While Bucs fans will remember him for their Super Bowl run and being a consistent presence along the offensive line, he is now ready to show that consistency to another team in 2025. Cappa signed with the Bengals in 2022 and played 50 games for the team at the right guard position. On Wednesday, Cappa signed with the Raiders after being released by Cincinnati earlier in the week. Cappa heads to Las Vegas now with hopes of being apart of an already decent offensive line for the AFC West team. The Raiders have been connected to either a quarterback or running back with their sixth overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, either one will not benefit from Cappa and his work.

Raiders add former starting Super Bowl guard ahead of free agency

Raiders add former starting Super Bowl guard ahead of free agency The Las Vegas Raiders are jumping into free agency early, inking former Cincinnati Bengals offensive lineman Alex Cappa, the team announced on Wednesday. Cappa, 30, was released by the Bengals on Monday ahead of the final year of a four-year contract that he signed before the 2022 NFL season. Cappa was brought in as a piece to stabilize the Bengals' offensive line following a Super Bowl LVI loss against the Los Angeles Rams. The Humboldt State alum suffered an injury in Week 18 of the 2022 season and his production slipped from there. According to ESPN's Next Gen Stats, Cappa ranked 60th out of 62 players in pass block win rate as a guard in 2023. Then, during this recent 2024 season, Cappa ranked last among 64 qualifying players in the same statistic. Cappa's 2024 offensive grade was a meager 50.5 and his pass blocking grade was 39.7 per Pro Football Focus. The 6-foot-6, 310 pound offensive lineman allowed 51 pressures and eight sacks during the 2024 campaign. If the Raiders are bringing Cappa in as a buy-low depth piece, then this could be a high reward situation for Las Vegas. New Raiders general manager John Spytek previously served as Tampa Bay's director of player personnel from 2016-20 before ascending to become the Bucs' assistant general manager each of the past two seasons. Cappa has a Spytek connection as it was the Buccaneers who originally drafted Cappa with the No. 94 overall pick in the third round of the 2018 NFL draft. Cappa was the starting right guard for Tom Brady and the Buccaneers in 2020 when they went on to become Super Bowl LV champions, defeating Kansas City, 31-9.

Reports: Maxx Crosby, Raiders reach 3-year, $106.5M extension

March 5 - Las Vegas Raiders defensive end Maxx Crosby signed a three-year, $106.5 million extension on Wednesday to become the highest paid non-quarterback in NFL history. The deal, which includes $91.5 million guaranteed, was announced by multiple media outlets before the Raiders reported that they signed Crosby to a multi-year extension. "I'm just worried and focused about being the best version of myself every single day," Crosby said of being the highest-paid non-QB in the NFL. "My focus is on winning. Being the best player and leader I can be. The money is obviously incredible for my family, my kids and my future kids. Setting everybody up financially, not having that stressor is an absolute blessing. It doesn't change my approach. I'm still going to be here the same time every single day and put the work in. .".. We've got a lot of work to do. Obviously, it's a great honor to be in this position. My focus is on the day-to-day. That's what I'm going to continue doing." Crosby had two seasons remaining on his four-year extension that he signed in 2022. He had a base salary of $22.2 million in 2025 and $18.8 million in 2026; however, he didn't have any guaranteed money left in the deal. "This program is built around competition. We'll always pursue to find great competitors that will help us build a great team," Raiders coach Pete Carroll said. "There is no way we can find a player is more focused, directed and committed to giving everything he's got to every opportunity he's going to get. For us to make this statement today, this fits perfect. ... This is a great day for us. We're really thrilled about it." Crosby, 27, recorded a team-leading 7.5 sacks to go along with 45 tackles in 12 games (all starts) in 2024 before undergoing season-ending ankle surgery. The four-time Pro Bowl selection said Wednesday that he's "getting close" to being 100 percent recovered from the injury and started running on a treadmill. He estimated that he has one month left of rehab. Crosby has 366 tackles and 59.5 career sacks in 95 games (89 starts) since the Raiders selected him in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL Draft out of Eastern Michigan. Also on Wednesday, the Raiders signed former Cincinnati Bengals guard Alex Cappa to a two-year, $11 million deal. Cappa's agency confirmed the deal over X, formerly Twitter. Cappa, 30, will join the Raiders, whose new general manager John Spytek -- then with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers -- drafted him in the third round in 2018. Cappa's 51 quarterback pressures allowed per NFL Next Gen Stats were the worst in the league among players with at least 400 snaps. He started all 50 games in which he played for the Bengals across three seasons and 96 of the 102 in his NFL career.

Bengals release former Bucs starting guard ahead of free agency

The Bucs have always embraced reunions with players who left the team in free agency after being drafted by them in years past. We saw it last season with Jordan Whitehead, who was drafted by the Bucs and left in free agency before ultimately returning. Obviously, the results can be mixed, but there may be another player the team runs things back with now that he is available. On Monday, the Cincinnati Bengals released former Bucs draft pick and starter Alex Cappa from their roster in a move to save money towards their salary cap. Cappa, who will be an eighth-year player in 2025, joined the Bengals as a free agent in 2022. He started all 50 games he played in for Cincinnati at guard, the same position he played with the Bucs. In his career as a whole, Cappa has played in 102 games and started in 96 of them. Cappa was drafted in the third round in 2013, one year before Jason Licht arrived on the team. He got on NFL radars after an impressive showing at the Senior Bowl and a college career at Humboldt State, which is a now-defunct Division II program.

Cincinnati Bengals release veteran starting guard

Cincinnati Bengals release veteran starting guard If the Cardinals want a veteran guard, the Bengals just released one who has missed only one game in five seasons. The Arizona Cardinals have a need at guard on the offensive line this offseason. A veteran option has just come available. The Cincinnati Bengals released guard Alex Cappa. Cappa is 30 years old and has started 96 games at guard in his career. He has only missed one game in the last five games. He played the last three seasons for the Bengals after four with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who drafted him in the third round in 2018. The Cardinals have a hole at guard with Will Hernandez, Evan Brown and Trystan Colon all set to become free agents. 2024 third-round pick Isaiah Adams finished the season starting five games at right guard, but it is uncertain whether the coaches see him as a starter for 2025. With Cappa's release, he becomes a free agent immediately. If the Cardinals are interested, they can pursue him now.
