Shreveport firefighters save man from Stoner Ave blaze

SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) — Shreveport firefighters rescued a male victim from a quadplex fire on Stoner Avenue on Saturday morning. The Shreveport Fire Department stated they responded to a fire in the 600 block of Stoner Avenue shortly after 10:30 a.m. Saturday morning. They reported heavy smoke coming from the building, and firefighters said they discovered a male victim trapped inside one of the residences. 'Under the command of Captain C. Rushing, with Engineer A. Harrel and Firefighter J. Wilcher, the crew successfully rescued the victim through a window,' detailed SFD's news release. 'Firefighters then launched an aggressive interior attack, quickly locating the fire at the rear of the structure. Crews were able to contain and extinguish the blaze, bringing it under control by 10:55 a.m. and preventing further damage to the remaining residence.' SFD: Fire escape plan vital to survive a house fire A total of 27 firefighters and support personnel responded to the incident. EMS Officer noted the victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation and was reported to be in stable condition. One Shreveport firefighter sustained minor injuries during the rescue effort. The Shreveport Fire Department investigated and found that there was no working smoke alarm in the residence. The fire investigation division ruled the fire accidental in origin. SFD urges all residents to ensure their homes are equipped with working smoke alarms.
