Temporary road closures in Sarikei for Car-Free Morning event June 14

Map shows the affected roads during the Car-Free Morning Sarikei programme. SARIKEI (June 6): Several roads in Sarikei town will be closed in conjunction with the upcoming Car-Free Morning Sarikei programme, scheduled for June 14. Sarikei District Council chairman Councillor Stephen Wong Kie Yong in a statement said the programme will take place at the council grounds starting from 6am to 10am. Among the affected roads are Jalan Sentral, Jalan Wharf, Jalan Repok, Jalan Seng Lee, Jalan Getah, Jalan Bersatu, and Jalan Nyelong. 'These closures are to facilitate the 3KM Fun Walk route, which starts from the Sarikei District Council office, passing through the Pineapple Landmark, Nyelong Esplanade, Sarikei Landmark, Kite Park (Taman Layang-Layang), and back to the council office,' said Wong. Other activities lined up for the day include the Fun Walk, Customer Day, and a Used Cooking Oil Collection campaign. 'The objective of this programme is to raise public awareness about the importance of reducing motor vehicle usage, in line with efforts to promote Sarikei as a low-carbon town. 'In addition, the programme also encourages healthy and active lifestyles, while fostering environmental care and awareness of air quality,' he said. He advised members of the public planning to visit Sarikei town on that day to plan their journey in advance, use alternative routes provided, and follow instructions from police officers and traffic marshals at the location. car-free morning road closures Sarikei
