Strong winds blow Central Coast kite surfer into power lines
A KITE SURFER made a lucky escape on Monday morning after strong winds forced him into power lines on the Central Coast.
The man in his 50s was surfing at a popular Central Coast beach on May 19 when a weather change caused him to become airborne.
Emergency services were alerted to the scene at Ettalong Beach about 11.30am when the Mounties Care CareFlight Helicopter was tasked by NSW Ambulance.
A CareFlight spokesperson said the man had sustained lacerations after being caught in the power lines.
He was treated by a CareFlight specialist doctor and NSW Ambulance paramedics at the scene before he was transported by helicopter to the Royal North Shore Hospital in a stable condition.
The wild weather is drenching the Hunter Coast with the Bureau of Meteorology warning the worst is yet to come.
Large and powerful surf conditions are expected to be hazardous for coastal activities such as crossing bars by boat and rock fishing.
Daily rainfall totals between 70mm and 130mm are expected around the region on Tuesday, while some isolated areas may receive up to 180mm. Williamtown and Cessnock recorded record May daily rainfall totals in the 24 hours to 9am Monday.
