Rajasthan farmer's daughter defies odds, tops RBSE 12th exam
In a remarkable journey of perseverance and determination, a young girl from Suratpura, a small village near Rajgarh in Rajasthan, has emerged as one of the top scorers in the Class 12 state board examinations in the science stream. Scoring a near-perfect result — full marks in all subjects except Hindi, where she lost just one mark — Preeti Puniya has made her village and family immensely proud.
Hailing from a humble background, she comes from a farming family that leads a modest, agriculture-based life. She has two brothers and lives in a joint family with her uncle and aunt. Despite the limited resources, she never allowed her circumstances to limit her aspirations.
The RBSE Class 12 result was announced on May 23. Among the regular candidates, girls have outperformed boys in the Science stream with a pass percentage of 99.04 per cent, compared to 98.41 per cent of boys. A total of 1,01,727 girls passed the Class 12 Science exam. On the other hand, 1,64,657 boys passed.
Puniya leads a disciplined life. 'I used to wake up at 4 am and study till 6 am, followed by household chores before going to school. After returning, I helped at home again and then focused on studies,' she said, adding that she took the help of Physics Wallah (PW) classes.
Interestingly, she did not own a smartphone. Her elder brother, who attends college, would download the required classes and study material for her. This arrangement did not deter her spirit; instead, it motivated her to make the most of what was available.
She studied in Sarvodya Public School, Rajgarh, and had previously scored 97.33% in her Class 10 board exams in 2023. A student from the PCB (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) stream, she has a deep interest in Chemistry and aims to pursue graduation while preparing for the prestigious UPSC examination.
Talking about handling stress, she admits it wasn't easy. 'There were times when I couldn't even express how I was feeling, but my family was supportive, and that made things easier,' she said.
