Boost for thousands as €150 social welfare increase set to hit Irish accounts next month and exact date confirmed
A MAJOR pay boost is on the cards for thousands of people as a social welfare payment will hit bank accounts in just a few weeks.

The payment, which used to be called the Carer's Respite Grant, is given to those who are looking after someone in their life.
In 2024, the overall payments were worth €1,850.
This year, they are set to amount to €2,000.
Each person who receives the boost will be paid €150 for each person they care for.

It means that if you care for two people, you will receive €300 instead of an overall €150.
Only one can receive the payment.
The payment can be spent however the carer decides and no tax is applied to it.
And it's not means tested.

But there are certain criteria that must be met to make you eligible to receive it.
The Carer's Support Grant is paid out by the Department of Social Protection to those who already receive Carer's Allowance, Carer's Benefit, or Domiciliary Care Allowance.
But some who don't receive those
To qualify, if you are over 16 and living full time in Ireland.
You must be caring for someone on a full time basis and have been their carer for at least six months.
CRITERIA TO MEET
And the six month period must include the first Thursday in June, when the payment will be sent out.
You must also be living with the person you care for, or be their primary carer who they can easily contact.
During the six months you have been a carer, you must also not be working more than 18.5 hours per week in employment or self employment.
You also must not be in education for more than 18.5 hours per week.
