Lisa Hurley's Book Space To Exhale Offers a Timely Blueprint Encouraging Rest, Healing, and Liberation for Black Women

Groundbreaking Book Launches on June 17, 2025, Coinciding with Juneteenth and Caribbean-American Heritage Month. JERSEY CITY, N.J., May 21, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Three-time Anthem Award-winning activist, writer, and Reiki Master Lisa Hurley announces the release of her début book, Space To Exhale, a powerful and poetic ode to rest as the foundation of radical self-love for Black women. Timed intentionally, the book will launch on June 17, 2025, to align with celebrating Juneteenth, Caribbean-American Heritage Month, and the second anniversary of The Great Exhale, the wellness community founded by Hurley that centers Black women's healing, joy, and rest. In Space To Exhale: A Handbook for Curating a Soft, Centered, Serene Life, Hurley issues a gentle but bold invitation for Black women to reclaim their time, their joy, and their breath. The book explores rest as a form of resistance, reclamation, and healing, offering readers insights into finding peace amidst societal pressures. For example, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Black women have been disproportionately affected by the recent fluctuations in the job market, losing the highest number of jobs across all demographics. "Space To Exhale is so relevant for such a time as this," says Mary-Frances Winters, author of Black Fatigue. "Those of us who are a part of the global majority–and particularly Black women–are under intensified attacks, leaving many of us feeling unsafe and exhausted. Hurley invites us to pause, breathe, and curate a life of intentional rest, connection, and alignment. Space To Exhale is truly a gift." Readers can expect to get: An exploration of rest as a radical act for Black women Personal anecdotes and reflections from the author Practical tips and soft-life strategies for creating life-work balance Affirmations, meditations, and breathing exercises to improve one's mindset Advice on beating burnout, welcoming ease, escaping overdrive, and embracing underdrive "In a world that often demands our constant labor and resilience, Space To Exhale is an invitation to pause, breathe, and honor our need to simply be." says Hurley. "This book is for every Black woman who's been holding her breath—emotionally, spiritually, and physically. It is time to rest. It is time to do less. It is time to exhale." The release of Space To Exhale is part of a broader initiative to promote conversations around rest, mental health, and self-care, especially during Juneteenth. The book launch period will feature select in-person and virtual events, and Hurley is also available for interviews, speaking engagements, and features. Space To Exhale is published by Wiley, and pre-orders are available now. The book can be purchased through all major book retailers and online platforms.
