Carl Junction seniors revisit old halls in caps and gowns

CARL JUNCTION, Mo. — It's a walk to remember for some local students before they make a different walk to remember. Carl Junction High School seniors, today, walked the halls of the buildings where they first started their educational journey, and did so decked out in their caps and gowns. 'It was really like rewarding to see, everybody was like high-fiving and cheering, and just to kind of go through our old tracks, and like see where we came from,' said Kenna Ellison, Carl Junction senior. 'I love it. It's an exciting time. I'm happy for them. I've had two that have graduated already, so I know all of the emotions that those parents are feeling, and I have one still in high school that's getting close. So, it's just—it's very rewarding to see them walk through for us,' said Dr. Gretchen DeMasters, Carl Junction Intermediate Principal. These seniors will make their walk across the stage during graduation 5-weeks from tomorrow. The district also reminds students and parents of no school in Carl Junction on Good Friday. Golden Lion Award: Jocelyn Wengert

CARL JUNCTION, Mo. — Our latest Golden Lion Award winner likes to build connections. She uses photos and videos to create community at Carl Junction High School and around the Carl Junction community. 'I am a lifelong Bulldog. I've been here since the beginning.' But her time at Carl Junction High School is almost up. And Jocelyn Wengert is packing in as many memories as possible… things like the student council. 'I am also vice president of National Business Honor Society, so that is super fun to just be able to give back to the community in that way as well.' Jocelyn spends a lot of her free time with CJ TV – meaning she takes pictures and video of everything from different CJ sports to community projects. That includes volunteering to make a video for Camp Soroptomist. 'We were able to just learn about their camp, what exactly all those volunteers helped do to give back to the community, as well as students that might need the more help,' said Wengert. She's helped with school projects like blood drives and mentoring younger CJ students through Team Bulldog. Also in the metro community, like event set up and clean up at the Empire Market and helping with Special Olympics. 'We were able to put together a fun little day of events for them, and I took photos to capture those moments for all the Facebook people to see, for parents, family.' 'Just helps push me to be like a good person. I want to give back to the community that's always been so great to me, always giving me support.' Carl Junction teacher Corey Clingan says Jocelyn is a great fit for the Golden Lion Award. 'Jocelyn will soon graduate and is narrowing down the choices for her future,' said Clingan. 'I'm gonna go to Missouri Southern State University, and I'm still in the bay if I'm going to go for business or nursing, keeping my options very open,' said Wengert.
