Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia of Sweden officially introduced their baby daughter Princess Ines to the public on Sweden's National Day The royal couple welcomed their fourth child and first daughter on Feb. 7 Baby Princess Ines made her balcony debut for her grandfather King Carl XVI Gustaf's birthday in April, but National Day marked her first official eventPrince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia of Sweden introduced their baby daughter Princess Ines to the world on a meaningful day. On June 6, Sweden's National Day, the royal couple brought their infant daughter along to open the Royal Palace in Stockholm for special visiting hours. Prince Carl Philip, 46, and Princess Sofia, 40, welcomed their fourth child (and first daughter!) on Feb. 7, and named her Ines Marie Lillian Silvia. The infant princess made her public debut on the Royal Palace balcony for King Carl XVI Gustaf's April 30 birthday and attended her first event with her parents on National Day. Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia were all smiles as they stepped out at the Royal Palace with their baby daughter, who turns 4 months old tomorrow. There, the mom and daughter matched in the traditional Sverigedräkten (national dress) in blue and yellow hues, reflecting the national flag, as Sofia and Carl Philip welcomed people to the palace. The couple opened the palace's southern gates at 10 a.m., local time, to welcome the public to the inner courtyard, where Prince Carl Philip gave a brief speech. "Ladies and gentlemen, a warm welcome to the Royal Palace. How nice that so many of you have come here today!" he said in part. "Being able to gather here on Sweden's National Day means a lot to my family and me. The royal palaces are an important part of our cultural heritage. Therefore, it is a pleasure to welcome you into these unique environments filled with history, art and stories." Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia also gave a fun peek behind the scenes in a video shared to Instagram. The clip opened with a selfie-style shot of the couple smiling inside the palace, and rolled to show them meeting paramedics and greeting the public with Princess Ines in tow. Carl Philip is the second child and only son of King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden, and will celebrate ten years of marriage with his wife, Sofia, next week on June 13. The couple tied the knot almost a decade ago and went on to welcome sons Prince Alexander, 9, Prince Gabriel, 7 and Prince Julian, 4. At the start of the year, their family expanded when Princess Ines was born, and the couple gave her middle names to honor her grandmothers. Sofia's mother is named Marie, while Carl Philip's mom is Queen Silvia. Can't get enough of PEOPLE's Royals coverage? to get the latest updates on Kate Middleton, Meghan Markle and more! Swedish king starts trend after saying granddaughter's name wrong

Back in February, Prince Carl Philip and his wife, Princess Sophia, had their fourth child. When Carl Philip's father, King Carl XVI Gustaf, announced the name, he accidentally called her Inse instead of Ines. At the time, no one in Sweden went by that name. Now, according to the Swedish Tax Agency, which is responsible for keeping the population register up to date, there are two Swedes named Inse. The first, born late last year, was given the name on March 11th, 2025, a few weeks after the king's blunder. Parents in Sweden have three months from the birth of their child to register their name with the Tax Agency. Advertisement Another little Inse, born in 2025, was given the name on March 20th. Sweden has strict rules on naming children (or changing your name as an adult for that matter), banning names which could be offensive or cause problems for the child in the future, as well as names which could be mistaken for surnames. Here are five names which the Tax Agency has rejected in the past.

Princess Sofia Reveals Daughter's Name for the First Time (& There's a Special Meaning)

Princess Sofia and Prince Carl Philip of Sweden have finally got a little girl to dote on, and are ready to introduce her to the world. After welcoming their princess into the royal family fold on Feb 7, it was King Carl XVI Gustaf who revealed her name for the first time, choosing his appearance at the Council of State at the Royal Palace for the big news. Her name? Princess Ines Marie Lilian Silvia, which pays homage to her grandmothers on both sides—Carl Philip's mother, Queen Silvia, and Sofia's mother, Marie. Princess Ines Marie joins her brothers, Prince Alexander, 8, Prince Gabriel, 7, and Prince Julian, 3, making the family a party of six. The announcement of baby number four was made in September via their official Instagram account, alongside an oceanside selfie and caption that read, 'Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia have the great pleasure to announce that the Princess is expecting the couple's fourth child. Princess Sofia is doing well and the offspring is estimated to be February 2025. During the fall, no changes are expected to Princess Sofia's official program.' It was also announced during that time period that Princess Ines Marie will not receive the official HRH title ("His Royal Highness"), due to King Carl XVI Gustaf's decision to streamline the Swedish royal family in 2019. A few months afterwards, Princess Sofia sat down with Vogue Scandinavia for an interview that celebrated her 40th birthday and discussed her pregnancy, telling the publication, 'I always, always, always dreamt of a family. It's one of my biggest goals in life. Not everyone has that – I had that. Both me and my husband come from a family of five – with three kids – so we thought that that would be a good number, and we felt quite satisfied with that. But, gratefully, there's a bonus on the way. We feel very humble and grateful. It was maybe not in the plan, but now we are very, very excited. Especially the kids.' Princess Sofia Shares First Photo of Newborn Daughter (& Follows in Kate Middleton's Footsteps)

It's been three days since Princess Sofia of Sweden and her husband, Prince Carl Philip, welcomed their fourth child (and first daughter). And now, the proud mom is following in Kate Middleton's footsteps as an amateur photographer. This week, the Swedish royal family shared the first photo of the newborn, named Princess Ines. The palace also confirmed that Princess Sofia took the picture, which shows the baby snuggled in a blanket. The caption read, 'Princess Ines photographed by Princess Sofia.' Fans and followers filled the comments section with congratulatory messages. One person wrote, 'Adorable! Congratulations on the little Princess!' Another added, 'She's so lovely [red heart emoji].' The first photo came just a few days after the Swedish royal family announced Princess Ines's arrival. At the time, the couple didn't publicly reveal the newborn's name, but they did confirm it's a girl. "Today, Friday 7th February at 1.10 p.m., HRH Princess Sofia gave birth to a daughter at Danderyd Hospital in Stockholm,' the announcement read. 'The baby weighs 3645 grams and is 49 centimetres long. Prince Carl Philip was present at Danderyd Hospital throughout the birth.' Princess Sofia and Prince Carl Philip are also parents to three sons, Prince Alexander, 8, Prince Gabriel, 7, and Prince Julian, 3. Princess Ines will join the Swedish line of succession in the eighth spot behind her brothers. (FYI, Prince Carl Philip is currently fourth in line to the throne.) There's a New Swedish Royal Baby!

Sweden's royal family has a new member! This week, it was announced that Prince Carl Philip—the son of King Carl XVI Gustaf—and his wife, Princess Sofia, have welcomed a baby girl. Born on February 7th at Danderyd Hospital in Stockholm, Princess Ines Marie Lilian Silvia is the couple's fourth child and only daughter, following their sons, Prince Alexander, Prince Gabriel, and Prince Julian. The palace shared the first image of the new royal baby, taken by Princess Sofia herself. Later in the week, Carl Philip and Sofia shared a duo of additional sweet images to their own Instagram account featuring little Ines being doted on by her big brothers. Ines's name was first announced by the king at a special Council of State on February 10th and pays poignant homage to both of her grandmothers—Sofia's mother Marie, as well as Carl Philip's mother, Queen Silvia. While it was also announced that the little princess has been granted the Duchy of Västerbotten, and is now eighth in live for the throne, like her brothers she is not considered a member of the royal household and will not use the title HRH (Her Royal Highness.) Ines's lack of HRH status is part of a 2019 decision made by the king, which stripped those of his grandchildren not in the direct line of succession of the title and relieved them of royal duties. The move was reportedly part of an effort to help streamline the working royal family by paring back the number of royals carrying out official duties in the future. At the time that the decision was announced, Carl Philip (who is fourth in line for the throne following his older sister Crown Princess Victoria and her children) and Sofia shared on Instagram that they "see this as positive," and that not having HRH status will help give their children "freer choices in life."
