Hours before Wahkia Ewalk was shot and killed in Regina, he spoke to his mom on the phone.
'The night he was killed, I called him,' Carleen Ewalk said.
'I said, 'I love you' and he said, 'I love you too, mom.' That was the last time I heard his voice.'
Wahkia had travelled to Regina, from Saskatoon, with his sister and great-grandmother to visit childhood friends.
On May 30, the 22-year-old was found dead in a Normanview neighbourhood house — blocks from his uncle's home, where he was staying.
Wahkia's mother believes he was walking home from a party when he was shot four times.
'I think it was the wrong place at the wrong time,' she told CTV News.
'These men just attacked him. He didn't know them.'

Two men were arrested in Edmonton in connection with Wahkia's death.
Angus Fox, 32, is charged with first-degree murder. Herb Fox, 34, is charged with accessory after the fact to murder.
The details of the case have yet to be presented in court.
Carleen said she felt 'physically sick' the moment a police officer arrived at her door, to deliver the news.
'My knees buckled. He's my one and only son,' she said.
'I never knew this kind of pain in my whole entire life. It's unbearable.'
Wahkia leaves behind a five-year-old son, and a daughter on the way.
'It hurts that his kids aren't going to have a dad. It hurts that his sister is not going to have her brother ... we're a very tight-knit family,' she said, looking at a photo of her son and grandson in front of a birthday cake.
'They both have the same birthday.'

Wahkia is remembered as a devoted father who loved taking his son to the park.
Carleen plans to attend Angus Fox's next court appearance on Thursday.
'I want to see who he is. And I want him to see me. I want him to see my face,' she said.
Wahkia's death marks Regina's fourth homicide of 2025.
