Ottawa police find stolen vehicle in Carlington

(Aaron Reid/CTV News Ottawa) The Ottawa Police Service says one person has been charged after officers found a stolen vehicle in the Carlington neighbourhood last week. Officers with the west neighbourhood resource team spotted the vehicle at around 10 p.m. Friday, police said in a post on X. The suspects abandoned the vehicle a short distance away from where police spotted it, but one person came back and drove away in the car. Police stopped the driver nearby, but he got out and ran. He was later arrested after a brief chase. Police said the vehicle had been reported stolen the day before and was missing a roof box. The roof box was found in a nearby shed. The driver is now charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000 and driving while under suspension. Statistics available on the Ottawa Police Service's crime map show there were 577 reported vehicle thefts in Ottawa in the first five months of the year, a decline from 2024, when 712 vehicles were reported stolen between Jan. 1 and May 21.
