Residents asked to attend consultation on Hammonds Pond upgrade
Cumberland Council is inviting residents to give feedback on a new regeneration project in Hammond's Pond. The project, called Start with the Park, is backed by £2.6 million in funding from the Carlisle Town Deal. It aims to improve the green spaces of Carlisle as part of the first phase of the Greenway, a green travel route connecting St Cuthbert's Garden Village with Carlisle city centre and the surrounding countryside. Start with the Park is an investment in Hammond's Pond, with proposed improvements including upgraded play areas, a new skate park, tree planting, enhanced footpaths, and addressing drainage issues. A consultation event is scheduled for Wednesday, April 16 from 2pm to 7pm at Hammond's Pond Café. This will allow residents to ask questions, provide feedback, and gain a clearer understanding of the proposals according to the council. Hammonds Pond has been plagued with anti-social behaviour issues in recent times and local police have upped patrols in the area to help quell the rise. The council has launched a public consultation to help determine the design of the facility, ensuring it meets the needs of both local users and visitors from the wider area. A survey is now open for feedback and will close on Monday, February 24. Residents are being encouraged by the council to share their opinions on various aspects of the skatepark, including their preferred design style and key features they would like to see included. The survey asks participants to specify their age group and whether they use the existing skate facilities at Bitts Park. Respondents can also highlight the best elements of other skateparks, as well as features they dislike and would prefer to avoid in the new facility. The council has proposed the skatepark's location based on its accessibility and the feasibility of installing suitable lighting. As part of the consultation, residents can indicate whether they support the chosen location or suggest alternative considerations. The new skatepark is intended to be a robust and long-lasting facility that will become a key asset for the community.
