Man arrested in hit-and-run that hurt motorcyclist

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — An 18-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run crash that seriously injured a motorcyclist earlier this month in Central El Paso, El Paso Police said. Crime of Week: Motorcyclist critically injured after hit-and-run crash in Central El Paso Carlos Manuel Rivera, 18, was arrested after police received anonymous tips from the public. He is facing a charge of collision involving injury or death under a $50,000 bond, El Paso Police said. At about 2 a.m. on April 12, police responded to a hit-and-run crash along the 900 block of Piedras, near the Five Points area. Police said a man was riding a motor scooter or small motorcycle heading south on Piedras, approaching the intersection with Tularosa. At the same time, Rivera, who was unidentified at the time, was traveling north on Piedras. The suspect entered the mandatory left turn lane to turn onto Tularosa. However, the man continued northbound on Piedras and struck the motorcyclist, police said. The driver then fled the scene, police said. The motorcyclist was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. Police are still searching for the black 2014 Chevrolet Malibu they believe was involved in the crash.
