Carroll County Sheriff's Office advises residents to document models, serial numbers of property
CARROLL COUNTY, Ark. — The Carroll County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) in Arkansas says that too often, when deputies are called to take a theft or burglary report, they discover that the victim has not documented their property with model and serial numbers. This crucial information can make all the difference in recovering stolen items, the CCSO says. 'When we are provided with the brand name, model, and serial number of a stolen item, we can enter that information into the Arkansas Crime Information Center's database,' the CCSO says in a social media post. If the item is later sold to a pawn shop, the CCSO is alerted through a system called LEADS Online, which provides law enforcement with details of the transaction, including the name of the person who pawned the item and a copy of their driver's license. Additionally, if a law enforcement officer checks an item's serial number on scene, and it has been reported as stolen, they will be notified immediately and can begin an investigation on the spot, the CCSO says. 'We urge you to take some time — just a day — to document your valuables,' the CCSO says. 'Use a notebook or digital file to record the brand, model, serial number, and estimated value of items such as firearms, tools, electronics, motorcycles, ATVs, trailers, and more. For items without identification numbers, like jewelry, take clear photographs. Store this documentation in a secure place.' Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. EUREKA SPRINGS, Ark. — The Arkansas State Police (ASP) is investigating after the Carroll County Sheriff's Office asked their Criminal Investigation Division (CID) to look into an officer-involved shooting in Eureka Springs on Thursday, May 1. According to a news release from ASP, the Tri-City SWAT — consisting of Eureka Springs Police, Berryville Police and Green Forest Police officers — was serving a search warrant and arrest warrant for 44-year-old Jeremy Coyle of Eureka Springs for sexual assault charges at around 11:15 a.m. The SWAT officers tried to get Coyle to come out of his home, but they say he did not comply, prompting officers to enter. Paramedics gave Coyle emergency medical treatment at the scene, but he was later pronounced dead. His body was taken to the Arkansas State Crime Lab to confirm the cause of death. The Carroll County Prosecutor will determine if the officer followed state law with the lethal use of force once ASP CID Special Agents conclude their investigation.
