Alleged eMalahleni serial rapist back in court amid public outcry
Cascar Nkosi (39), the alleged serial rapist at the centre of one of eMalahleni's most disturbing criminal cases, is set to appear in the regional court today.
According to Witbank News, Nkosi faces 26 serious charges involving the kidnapping and rape of girls between the ages of 7 and 13, along with separate charges of raping and assaulting his wife.
His appearance comes after a dramatic turnaround on May 2, when he told the eMalahleni Magistrate's Court — through his attorney — that he would no longer abandon his bail application.
This followed the Directorate for Public Prosecution's (DPP) decision to move the trial to the regional court, not the high court, as many had expected.
The DPP's decision has caused public outrage, with activists and families of the victims demanding that the case be moved to the high court and that Nkosi be denied bail.
Community members, civil society groups, and political parties are already gathered outside the court, showing support for the victims and calling for justice to be served.
