Cass County celebrates Memorial Day with events, discounts for military
The annual Memorial Day parade in downtown Logansport is among several ways Cass County will be honoring and remembering the men and women who died while serving in the US military on Monday.
The Cass County Memorial Day Parade, sponsored and organized by the Cass County Veterans Council, begins at 10 a.m. at the Logansport City Building. Lineup begins at 9:30 a.m. with the public and all military veterans invited to participate.
The parade route includes brief programs at the City Building, Cass County Government Building and the Sixth Street Bridge. The parade then travels to the Civil War monument in Mount Hope Cemetery for a brief program, followed by a brief program at Legion Circle in the cemetery.
Immediately following the parade, the Cass County Community Foundation is once again hosting lunch for all veterans participating in the parade as well as law enforcement and firemen. The event is free for veterans and their families. Call 574-722-2200 for details.
Memorial Home open house
The Friends of Memorial Home, a group committed to preserving and revitalizing the local landmark, is hosting an open house event for Memorial Day from 12:30 -2:30 p.m. at 706 E Market St. The event is aimed at envisioning the future of the Memorial Home. The Memorial Home was built in 1860 and was dedicated as a war memorial in 1922.
Cass County Carousel open
The Cass County Carousel will be open from Memorial Day weekend to mid-August, Monday through Friday from 6-9 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays from 1-9 p.m. The carousel will be open 1-5 p.m. on Memorial Day and Labor Day, and from 3-9 p.m. on July 4.
From mid-August to Labor Day weekend, the carousel will be open Saturdays from 1-9 p.m. and Sundays from 1-6 p.m. Rides are $2 per rider, regardless of age.
The train runs Friday through Sunday, and holidays, weather-permitting.
Walton celebration
Lewis Cass Alumni Association and Walton Legion Post 418 presents a Memorial Day Celebration beginning with a Memorial Day service at Walton IOOF Cemetery from 3-4 p.m. Monday, followed by a picnic at the Walton American Legion and LCAA Pavilion from 4-7 p.m. Food, drinks and music will be offered with a freewill offering. All are welcome.

Verizon, 2503 E. Market St. — Military and veteran families get a $200 Verizon gift card and a phone in honor of Military Appreciation Month.
