Mixed Warrington Wolves injury news as Wembley nears
WHILE all the signs are pointing to George Williams being fit to lead Warrington Wolves out at Wembley on Saturday, there are a few other players whose Challenge Cup Final participation is slightly less certain. And on that front, head coach Sam Burgess reported mixed news as Lachlan Fitzgibbon, Jordy Crowther and Toby King battle to be fit to face Hull KR. Advertisement Fitzgibbon returned from a rib issue for Friday's game against Castleford Tigers but picked up a fresh knee injury during the first half. The second-rower did not return for the second half but Burgess remains confident he will be fit to feature at Wembley. He was not as certain, however, on centre King (groin) and forward Crowther (ankle) whom he says are less likely to play at this stage. 'I think he'll be okay,' Burgess said of Fitzgibbon. 'We've not practiced this week yet so we'll know a bit more about him tomorrow but all of the signs are pointing the right way. 'Toby and Jordy are a bit more of a stretch. Advertisement 'We'll give them until the last possible minute, but they're both probably a bit of a stretch.' After his head coach had declared following the Castleford game that Williams would likely be fit for Wembley, the skipper himself officially confirmed he would be fit to play at Monday's pre-match media event. And Burgess believes he will not be hindering the team by doing so. 'First and foremost, we've got to be responsible,' he said. 'He's seven-and-a-half weeks post-surgery – it's been done before so it's not groundbreaking, but he's worked really hard and pushed the boundaries. 'With any player returning from injury, there's always an element of risk. 'It's not a soft tissue injury which is higher-risk, it's more structural but he's been in full practice for the last seven days or so. 'We're pretty confident in him playing the full 80 minutes.'

Milestones that Stefan Richard achieved on his special night
Stefan Ratchford is mobbed by teammates as he celebrates scoring a try for Warrington Wolves against Castleford Tigers (Image: Paul Currie/ STEFAN Ratchford's milestone game for Warrington Wolves against Castleford Tigers turned out to be a sweet one in a number of ways. The 36-year-old, who is in his 14th season at the club, fittingly scored The Wire's 75th-minute try on his 350th club appearance to kill off Castleford's comeback and send his team to Wembley on the back of a timely win. Advertisement Ratchford is now Warrington's joint 18th highest appearance maker in the club's entire history. He is level with former Wire back-rower, skipper and head coach Paul Cullen but could quickly climb into the top 15, as he is only a few behind Frank Williams (351) and Eric Fraser (352). His first appearance in the club colours came in the opening game of the 2012 season away to Hull FC - a game which ended 20-20. Stefan Ratchford leads out The Wire against Castleford Tigers (Image: Paul Currie/ Meanwhile, Ratchford's career games tally has now moved on to 468. He made 108 appearances for Salford between 2007 and 2011 and has 10 international caps to his name. Advertisement 'I don't really know what to say,' said Ratchford when asked about reaching his 350th match milestone. 'I'm not usually stuck for words but 350 games for one club, especially coming after being at Salford for a few years as well, is probably something I never thought I'd achieve. 'With five minutes left that gap opened up, luckily I was there and Duff (Matt Dufty) popped the ball up nicely so to get a try on the milestone is real nice. 'The milestone is probably something I'll look back on in time and it'll probably hit me a little bit more. It's something pretty special to be honest.' Trio set to return for Wire's Cas clash, but two to miss out
WARRINGTON Wolves look set to welcome back some of their experienced campaigners for Friday night's Super League clash with Castleford Tigers – the last game before the Challenge Cup Final at Wembley. Head coach Sam Burgess said scrum-half Marc Sneyd and hooker Sam Powell are in line to play, and he indicated there is a strong chance of a return for second-rower Lachlan Fitzgibbon too. He also said Paul Vaughan and Toby King are 'tracking well' and added: 'Whether I play them or not I'll see.' However, such is life at The Wire at the moment, it is a couple in and a couple out – with neither Oli Leyland or Jordan Crowther in consideration. Both Leyland and Crowther were scheduled to have scans this afternoon. Leyland limped out of the action against Hull KR last Friday after 10 minutes with a knee injury and Crowther succumbed to an ankle issue in the late stages. While ruling both out of contention this week, Burgess remains hopeful that Crowther could regain fitness in time for Wembley. The news does not look good for Leyland though. 'They're both getting scanned this afternoon. With it being a bank holiday Monday, we could only get them in today. 'Jordy's actually pulled up pretty good, so that's good. He won't play this week but depending on what the results say, he's a chance for next week which is good. 'Oli's not looking great, he's not presenting very well, but let's wait and see what the results of the scans say.' More: What Sam Burgess said after George Williams trained today Sneyd and Powell both missed the Round 12 defeat to table toppers Hull KR and Burgess said the decision to leave them out was more than for precautionary measures. 'We had a five-day turnaround from the Wakey game. Sneyd took a bang on the head and it just didn't feel he'd recovered quickly enough,' said Burgess. 'And Sam couldn't quite make it. I reckon if we'd had an eight-day turnaround he'd have played, but it was just too hard on a five-dayer. 'They wouldn't have been able to do a good job and it would probably have injured them further. 'It's a bit of a balancing act. 'But we're getting a couple back now so we'll be a little bit stronger. 'It's nice to get a couple in because we've been really thin the last few weeks. 'We get some senior players back which will be good for the group.'
