The forthcoming season is set to bring a fresh vibe, introducing several new characters into the mix. One of these is Dr James Ford, a psychiatrist who becomes a pivotal figure in the season's investigation. Stepping into the shoes of James is actor Tom Hughes, recognised for his roles in TV shows like Victoria and films such as Red Joan. ‌ As we gear up to welcome Tom back onto our screens, let's take a peek into his life away from the camera, including his high-profile past relationship. Now aged 40 he is an actor, model, and musician. He sharpened his acting skills at the Liverpool Everyman Youth Theatre group before earning a BA in Acting from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in 2008. Tom has carved out a name for himself through various TV shows, modelling campaigns, and as the guitarist of indie band Quaintways. In July 2010 'Company Magazine' even voted him the tenth most eligible bachelor in Britain. Article continues below After finishing his studies, in 2009 Tom landed his first acting role in the BBC spin-off series Casualty 1909. Around the same time, he appeared in the ITV drama Trinity, before making his big-screen debut in 2010 with Sex and Drugs and Rock and Roll. Tom's acting career includes roles in the comedy Cemetery Junction, BBC One's Silk and the TV film Page Eight. He also played Aumerle in The Hollow Crown before landing the lead role in the BBC film 8 Minutes Idle. His big break came in 2016 when he was cast as Prince Albert in ITV's Victoria, where he starred alongside Jenna Coleman. In 2019, he appeared in the film Red Joan with Judi Dench and joined the second series of A Discovery of Witches. ‌ He was previously in a relationship with actress Jenna Coleman for four year (Image: (Image: Karwai Tang/WireImage) ) In addition to his acting work, Tom has modelled for Burberry and was once the face of the brand's summer collection, alongside Emma Watson. As for his personal life, Tom is quite private. His current relationship status is unknown. ‌ However, he was previously in a relationship with actress Jenna Coleman for four years, which began in 2016 when they were both working on ITV's Victoria. However, it was revealed in 2020 that they had split. Jenna is now in a relationship with filmmaker Jamie Childs, whom she met on the set of The Sandman. They welcomed their first child in 2024. Now, Tom will be joining the cast of Malpractice for their second season. Since the first season, which starred Niamh Algar as an A&E doctor under investigation, the show has evolved into an anthology, with the only returning characters being medical investigators Norma and George, played by Helen Behan and Jordan Kouamé.
