Labor and Greens coming for the ‘bad people' with large super balances
Menzies Research Centre's Nick Cater says Labor and the Greens believe people who save money for their retirement are 'bad people'. Mr Cater's comments come after Labor plans to increase the tax on super balances over $3 million dollars. Australians should be encouraged to 'look after themselves' in retirement, Mr Cater told Sky News host Rita Panahi. Treasurer Jim Chalmers has walked back Prime Minister Anthony Albanese's comments on superannuation tax. Jim Chalmers has made it clear he would prefer to negotiate with the Greens to get the reforms past the senate.

Pancake Day 2025: Races take place across the south of England

SJ high school employee identified in child porn investigation, police say
(KRON) — A man employed at a San Jose high school was arrested in late January after a child sexual abuse material (CSAM) investigation identified him as the primary suspect, the San Jose Police Department announced Monday. Detectives with SJPD's Internet Crimes Against Children arrested Sherman Cater III, 38, of Cupertino, on Jan. 28. According to police, Cater was 'observed downloading and distributing' CSAM from his Cupertino residence during an investigation that ran from November 2024 to January 2025. Prosecutor rests case in trial for Maddy Middleton's killer A search warrant executed at his residence located devices containing CSAM, authorities said. During the investigation, detectives learned Cater worked as an active para-educator at a high school on the 3500 block of Zanker Road. Authorities did not name the school, though Kathleen MacDonald High School is located at that address. The Santa Clara Unified School District is cooperating with the investigation, police said. San Jose high school employee arrested on child pornography charges
Police in San Jose on Monday confirmed the recent arrest of a Kathleen MacDonald High School employee for possession of child sexual abuse materials, according to authorities. A press release issued Monday afternoon by the San Jose Police Department detailed the investigation into the suspect's behavior that led to his arrest. According to police, between November of 2024 and last month, the department's Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) / Child Exploitation Detail (CED) Task Force conducted an investigation regarding a suspect who was observed downloading and distributing Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) from his Cupertino residence. On January 27, detectives identified 38-year-old Cupertino resident Sherman Cater III as the primary suspect in the case. During the course of the investigation, detectives determined Cater was employed as an active paraeducator at Kathleen MacDonald High School located on the 3500 block of Zanker Rd. in San Jose. Detectives immediately obtained a search warrant for his residence. The following day, detectives located and developed probable cause to arrest Cater. During the search of his residence, ICAC forensic officers located and seized devices that contained child sexual abuse material. The suspect was booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail for possession of child sexual abuse material, police said. The release noted that the school district was notified of the investigation at the time of the arrest and has fully cooperated with the investigation.
