Lottery player tries luck on digital game — and hits ‘record-breaking' Georgia jackpot
A Georgia lottery player became a millionaire — and made history in the process.
A Buford resident hit the jackpot, winning $1,161,177 on the Cats Jackpot Diggi Game on the Georgia Lottery app March 4, lottery officials said in a news release.
The record-breaking prize is the largest jackpot win on a digital game in Georgia Lottery history, officials said. Diggi Games are played exclusively online and in the mobile app and usually have a rolling jackpot.
To play Cats Jackpot, players must collect a 'cluster' of three or more matching symbols to win a prize, according to the lottery's website. Four or more matching paw symbols get you a guaranteed-win bonus game, and six paw symbols win the progressive jackpot.
The overall odds of winning any prize in the the Cats Jackpot Diggi game are 1-in-4.56, according to the Georgia Lottery's website.
Officials didn't provide additional information.
The record-breaking win comes on the heels of another huge win in Macon, where a lottery player netted a $3 million jackpot on a scratch-off game, the Macon Telegraph reported.
Someone also won $1 million playing the 2nd Edition Billionaire Club scratcher, the Georgia Lottery said. That ticket was sold at a convenience store in Atlanta.
Winners have 90 days to claim prizes on instant win games and 180 days from the draw date for draw games, according to the Georgia Lottery.
All players are encouraged to sign their winning tickets.
Buford is about a 40-mile drive northeast from downtown Atlanta.
