CPI(M) stages protest in Kodiyalam over drinking water, road issues
Members of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) staged a protest carrying empty pots at Kodiyalam village in Andhanallur Union on Monday, demanding urgent action to address civic infrastructure issues, including drinking water supply, road connectivity, and public amenity upgrades. The protest drew attention to several long-standing grievances of residents in Kodiyalam panchayat. These include lack of road to the Scheduled Caste burial ground on Sappanikoil Theru, inadequate drinking water supply and the poor condition of a bridge in Pulivalam, which, the protesters said, needed urgent repairs. CPI(M) members called for the construction of an overhead water tank and the installation of drinking water pipelines under the Cauvery Combined Drinking Water Scheme to ensure stable potable water supply. The protest, initially planned as a road blockade on the Tiruchi–Karur National Highway, was led by CPI(M) Tiruchi Rural district secretary Govi Vetriselvam and other party functionaries with the participation of local residents. Police officials arrived at the scene and following negotiations led by a tahsildar, the road blockade was called off. The demonstration was peaceful and was held on the roadside. Protesters warned that another agitation would be launched if their demands were not met promptly.
