Gardaí in Cavan arrest five motorists in major Easter bank holiday weekend road safety crackdown

Two motorists were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of intoxicants last night (Monday) while two more were stopped for having no insurance in place. 'Last night Cavan Roads Policing Unit made two arrests for intoxicated driving,' said a garda spokesperson. 'One driver is charged to court for excess alcohol and the other driver has been released pending blood analysis by the MBRS (Medical Bureau of Road Safety).' The spokesperson said gardaí also detained two cars in the greater Bailieboro area after both vehicles were flagged for having suspected no insurance from an Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) device. A fifth disqualified driver was likewise pulled in and arrested when officers discovered came across their silver coloured BMW. He has since been charged ahead of a likely court appearance over the coming weeks. The car itself was also seized, the spokesperson confirmed.
