'I'm super excited, definitely, this is something that we wanted to accomplish and I'm glad that we got it,' Ortiz said postgame. 'I'm super proud of the team and they really thought they had us, but we came back and did better.' Ortiz also hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth inning before finishing the day with two runs batted in. Sydney Lutz also drove in two runs for the Cardinals' offense. 'They're winners, they're not giving up easy. I mean, the ACC still at hand,' Canfield head coach Michael Kernan said. 'I don't think they've really have the respect they deserve throughout the season so far, so a nice quality win versus Fitch.' For the Falcons, Kylie Folkwein and Abby Toth (2 RBIs) both hit solo home runs while Alyssa Rodgers also provided an RBI triple. The loss drops Fitch to 16-4 and 6-2 in All-American Conference play. They are next scheduled to take on Aurora on Monday, May 12. With the win, Canfield moves to 15-2-1 on the season and keeps their conference title hopes alive (3-2) as they still have two matchups with Boardman (6-1), who sits atop the AAC.
