Is Jayson Tatum already a top-five Boston Celtics player of all time?
Is Jayson Tatum already a top-five Boston Celtics player of all time? Is Jayson Tatum already a top-five Boston Celtics player of all time? The St. Louis native had a heck of a head start since coming into the league in the 2017 NBA draft when the Celtics selected him at No. 3 overall, having played in the playoffs ever single season of his career to date. Tatum finally broke through to win it all and secure the long-coveted Banner 19 in the summer of 2024, and has racked up a host of accolades since he started suiting up for Boston. Did we mention that he still has a fair amount of time before his 30th birthday rolls around? The hosts of the CLNS Media "Cedric Maxwell" podcast, the eponymous Cedric Maxwell and his co-host Josue Pavon, took some time on a recent episode of their show to talk it over with CLNS jefe John Zannis. Take a look at their chat for yourself to see if you agree with Max's take on if Taco Jay has cracked Boston's top five of all time. Cedric Maxwell on the run to the 1981 Boston Celtics title
While most of the contemporary fans of the Boston Celtics know him as a beloved broadcaster over the airwaves for the Celtics, champion Boston forward (and former NBA finals Most Valuable Player) Cedric Maxwell was once a legend on the court he now calls as well. The 1981 and 1984 NBA champ won a pair of rings in Boston in the early 1980s playing alongside the likes of Hall of Fame Celtics stars like Robert Parish, Larry Bird, and Kevin McHale to beat the Houston Rockets and Los Angeles Lakers for banners back in the day. Cornbread -- as Maxwell was sometimes called for a nickname -- took some time to tell us about the run to the 1981 chip in particular on an episode of his eponymous CLNS Media "Cedric Maxwell" podcast, with his co-host Josue Pavon. Cedric Maxwell on Larry Bird reportedly approving Boston Celtics trading him to Clippers
Cedric Maxwell on Larry Bird reportedly approving Boston Celtics trading him to Clippers Back in the era of the so-called 'Original Big Three' of the Boston Celtics (comprised of the 1980s trio of future Hall of Fame Boston stars Larry Bird, Robert Parish, and Kevin McHale), an injury waylaid a key member of their first two titles in the 1980s, forward Cedric Maxwell. Cornbread -- as Maxwell was often called for a nickname -- lost his starting job to McHale and soon found himself traded to the Los Angeles Clippers. During the resurgence of awareness of that era of Celtics basketball thanks to the HBO docuseries "Celtics City," a claim was made regarding Bird having approved the trade of Maxwell to the Clippers. In the wake of that claim, the now-Boston broadcaster addressed Larry Legend supposedly signing off on dealing Cornbread to L.A. on his eponymous CLNS Media "Cedric Maxwell" podcast with his co-host Josue Pavon.
