Knitted lion joins painted pride in Gloucestershire summer trail
A WOOLLY lion cub is set to feature in a new Gloucestershire art trail. The Tesco Quedgeley Knit and Natter Group have made Cedrick, their knitted and crocheted cub, who will appear alongside 32 large lions and 54 smaller ones in Cheltenham and Gloucester. The Lions at Large trail will include designs donated by schools, clubs and community groups and will run from Friday, July 11, to Sunday, September 14. Cedrick stands out as the only knitted lion amongst the painted ones. He was crafted by seven-year-old Dexter Chambers, his mother Stacey Slocombe, and grandmother, Karen Slocombe. The other lions have been painted by local artists and represent Gloucestershire's history, culture, and diversity. They will be joined by the Cub Club – a pride of 54 little Lions created by local schools and community groups. The trail is a fun, free and family-friendly Wild in Art event Once the trail is over, the lions will be displayed together at Cheltenham Racecourse for a farewell weekend from Friday, October 3, to Sunday, October 5. The little Lions will later return to their creator's community groups and schools, while the large Lions will be auctioned off to raise funds for new cancer care facilities in Cheltenham. The proposed facilities will include digital consulting rooms, space for state-of-the-art research, and therapeutic outdoor space.
