Risca man arrested for drug driving after hitting young boy
Gelli Avenue in Risca was closed for around two hours from 4.20pm until 6.20pm yesterday after an incident involving a pedestrian and a car. The pedestrian, an 11-year-old boy, was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries while the driver of the car, a 45-year-old man from Risca, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of driving a vehicle while unfit through drugs and causing injury by careless/inconsiderate driving. He's been released under investigation as enquiries continue. A spokesperson for Gwent Police said: "We received a report of a road traffic collision on Gelli Avenue, Risca, at around 3.30pm on Thursday 15 May. "The collision involved a red Kia Ceed and a pedestrian. "The pedestrian, an 11 year-old boy, was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. "At the scene, officers arrested the driver of the Ceed, a 45 year-old man from Risca, on suspicion of driving a vehicle while unfit through drugs and causing injury by careless/inconsiderate driving. He's been released under investigation as enquiries continue. "Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to call 101 quoting log 2500153360."
