Swim safe this summer: Boys & Girls Club of Bay County offering affordable swim lessons

BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WMBB) – Summer is here, and so is swimming pool season. Safety officials say it's important to dive into it safely. The Bay County Boys and Girls Club is offering swim lessons for everyone through the American Red Cross Centennial Program. The two-week program teaches kids about water dangers and life-saving skills like floating and treading water. The lessons are 45 minutes each and are tailored to all swimmers, to ensure everyone has a safe summer. DOH-Bay County lifts advisory as water quality improves at parks The Red Cross partnership means reduced costs for the lessons, making it one of the most affordable in Bay County. 'We're standing in Bay County. We're practically surrounded by water, and water is such a central thing that people do, especially during the summer here in Florida. And unfortunately, the county has three times the national drowning rate. We want to change that. We will make sure that we prepare even first-time learners, like adults that don't know how to swim. I encourage them to give us a call,' Bay County Boys and Girls Club Chief Executive Officer Hank Hill said. Adult beginner swim lessons begin on Saturday, Mommy & Me, and kids lessons begin on Monday. Lessons are located at the Aquatics Center: 3404 W. 19th Street, Panama City.
