Seney and Anderson return just in time to help the IceHogs try to secure a playoff berth

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO/WQRF) — The IceHogs magic number for earning an AHL Calder Cup playoff berth has been sitting still at five for a week now. They are getting some help to try to push them over the top and get the job done this Seney and Joey Anderson are back from knee injuries and ready to play again. They've sat out the last two to three weeks. They were on the ice for practice Tuesday morning at BMO Center and looking both expected to play Friday and Saturday in the Hogs' back-to-back home games against the Tucson IceHogs have six regular season games left. Seney says that will be more than enough time to help him get back in a rhythm.'Yeah, I honestly, I don't know if it's two or three weeks I've been out, but I'm putting in a lot of work trying to stay game ready and conditioned. It's hard to replicate on-ice conditioning off ice, but it felt good in practice today.'Seney is third on the team in points this season with 36 (9 goals, 27 assists). Anderson has 25 points (16 goals, 9 assists) in only 30 games timing of the return of Seney and Anderson couldn't be better with the IceHogs trying to hold off a hot Iowa Wild team to clinch the fifth and final playoff spot in the Central Division.'Yeah. As far as I know, Joe's trending in the right direction for this weekend too, so I know he's really excited to be back,' said Seney. 'If we had to choose (a time) for guys to be bumped and bruised, you know, I think the last two, three weeks is a lot better than two, three weeks from now.'The IceHogs could use a spark. They dropped a pair of games last weekend to the Grand Rapids Griffins when they were outscored 8-3 and IceHogs have a six-point cushion on Iowa for that final playoff spot in the Central. The Hogs' chances of overtaking Chicago or Grand Rapids for the third or fourth spots don't look good. The Hogs trail both of those teams by ten points. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc.
