East Baton Rouge coroner called to scene of house fire on Hooper Road, officials say

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — One person has died after multiple fire departments responded to a house fire at 6420 Hooper Road on Friday, May 16. The Central Fire Department confirmed that one person was found and the coroner was called to the scene. Two firemen also suffered heat exhaustion and were treated and released at the scene by EMS, CFD said. They said CFD responded around 2:20 a.m. and the fire is under control at this time. CFD said overhaul is still being done at the scene. EMS and the Central Fire Department were joined by the District 6 Fire Department, Baton Rouge Fire Department and East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office at the scene. CFD said Hooper Road is open westbound but remains closed heading eastbound. This is a developing story and more information will be shared as it becomes available. BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — The East Baton Rouge Coroner's Office is investigating after a possible drowning in the Central area on Saturday, May 3. First responders said they were dispatched to the Frenchtown Road BREC Conservation Area around 5:15 p.m. in connection with the incident. The Central Fire Department confirmed a man's body was recovered around 7 p.m. from the Amite River at the conservation area. The victim went to the river and never resurfaced, according to the officials at the scene. A second person was rescued, EMS added. Multiple agencies helped with the investigation, including the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office, the East Side Dive Team, the St. George Dive Team, the Central Police Department, and the Central Dive Team. The victim's identity has not been released at this time. Additional information will be provided as it becomes available. Firefighters responded to the scene and were able to rescue one person from the burning home. However, the person later succumbed to their injuries at a local hospital. As emergency crews continue their work, Sullivan Road remains closed due to fire hoses being connected to a nearby hydrant. Man in critical condition after single-vehicle accident in Central

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) – An investigation is ongoing into an accident in the 12400 block of Hooper Road that injured one man on Monday, Feb. 10. The Central Police Department, East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office and Central Fire Department were called to the scene around 1:30 a.m. and initiated an investigation. According to Central Police Chief Roger Corcoran, a vehicle driven by a man was traveling east on Hooper Road when for unknown reasons it crossed the center line, left the roadway on the north side and went into a ditch. It then hit a culvert and flipped numerous times before coming to rest upside down. The male driver was extricated from the vehicle by the Central Fire Department and transported to the hospital by EMS. Hooper Road between Joor Road and Sullivan Road is closed due to the ongoing investigation. The Central Police Department and East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Fatality team and Crime Scene Division are conducting the investigation.
