NISHINOMIYA, Japan (Kyodo) -- The DeNA BayStars ended their scoreless streak at 36 innings and went on to beat the Central League-leading Hanshin Tigers 5-1 on Thursday. DeNA captain Shugo Maki's eighth home run of the season tied the game at 1 in the fourth inning. Toshiro Miyazaki's tiebreaking bases-loaded walk was followed by Taiki Ishikami's two-run single in the seventh, making it 4-1 at Koshien Stadium. Andre Jackson (5-1) pitched seven innings of one-run ball. Jon Duplantier (1-2) took the loss. In the day's other games, former Oakland Athletics left-hander Kyle Muller (1-3) picked up his first win in Japan after working seven innings as the Chunichi Dragons blanked the Yakult Swallows 6-0. The Rakuten Eagles defeated the Seibu Lions 6-3.

YOKOHAMA (Kyodo) -- Former major league pitcher Trevor Bauer threw the first complete-game shutout of his career in Japan as the DeNA BayStars edged the Yomiuri Giants 1-0 on Saturday. Bauer (2-3), the 2020 National League Cy Young Award winner with the Cincinnati Reds, struck out seven and scattered six hits, all singles, with two walks in a 122-pitch outing at Yokohama Stadium. The 34-year-old right-hander's batterymate Shion Matsuo broke a scoreless deadlock with an eighth-inning sacrifice fly after Keita Sano's one-out single put runners at the corners. Yomiuri reliever Yuhei Takanashi (0-1), who relieved Yuji Akahoshi to start the eighth, took the loss. The Central League-leading Giants saw their winning streak snapped at four games. Among Saturday's other games, the Seibu Lions beat the Nippon Ham Fighters 4-3 to extend their season-high winning streak to six games, while the Pacific League-leading Orix Buffaloes routed the Rakuten Eagles 7-0 for their third straight victory.

The backup catcher's one-out single to left off Hanshin closer Suguru Iwazaki (0-1) scored Trey Cabbage from third base at Koshien Stadium. The Central League-leading Tigers had a runner on third with one out in the bottom of the ninth, but Kai Ueda was thrown out at home by shortstop Yuta Izuguchi while trying to score on pinch-hitter Ryo Watanabe's grounder. Yomiuri closer Raidel Martinez then got Koji Chikamoto to ground out for the final out and picked up his eighth save. Taisei Ota (2-0) threw a perfect eighth. In other action, former major league pitcher Trevor Bauer (1-3) struck out 10 in eight innings of one-run ball as the DeNA BayStars edged the Hiroshima Carp 2-1. TOKOROZAWA, Japan (Kyodo) -- Shinya Hasegawa hit a three-run home run to back a strong start by Chihiro Sumida as the Seibu Lions beat the Orix Buffaloes 3-0 on Saturday. Sumida (4-0) struck out 11 over seven innings, scattering seven hits, all singles, with a walk in a 114-pitch outing at Belluna Dome. The Lions ended their losing streak at four games. Hasegawa belted his first home run of the season in the fourth inning off Anderson Espinoza (0-1). Kaima Taira pitched a 1-2-3 ninth for his fifth save. The Pacific League-leading Buffaloes suffered a shutout loss for the third time this season. Among Saturday's other games, the Central League-leading Hanshin Tigers extended their winning streak to six with a 6-2 victory over the Yomiuri Giants. The Chunichi Dragons downed the Yakult Swallows 5-2 for their first win in four games.
