Baton Rouge Fire mechanic wanted, accused of crashing city vehicle while under the influence
BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — A Baton Rouge Fire Department employee is wanted after being accused of crashing a city-parish vehicle while under the influence. Bart Perkins, 56, of Pride, faces charges of careless operation of a vehicle and operating a vehicle while intoxicated. According to the Central Police Department, on Dec. 5, 2024, officers responded to a crash in the 9500 block of Hooper Road. An arrest warrant states Perkins was driving a Ford F-150, which is owned by East Baton Rouge, when he reportedly crashed into the witness' vehicle. The witness told authorities that he looked in his rearview mirror and it appeared Perkins' head was down. Upon the officer's arrival, emergency responders found Perkins unconscious and administered Narcan, a medication used to treat narcotic overdose. Perkins immediately was brought back to consciousness. Perkins was an apparatus technician for the Baton Rouge Fire Department since 2008. He has been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation. Child hurt in multi-vehicle crash in East Baton Rouge Parish
BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — Two people were hurt including a child in a multi-vehicle crash on Greenwell Springs Road on Monday, March 17, the Central Police Department confirmed. Police said the child was taken to Our Lady of the Lake Children's Hospital in serious condition. The second person hurt in the crash was transported to the hospital in stable condition. Police responded at 5:37 p.m. to a two-vehicle crash on Greenwell Springs Road and Donnybrook Avenue and initiated an investigation. Central PD that the 'preliminary investigation leads us to believe eastbound traffic on Greenwell Springs Road was congested.' They said a vehicle heading east made space for a driver on Donnybrook Avenue to turn left. That vehicle was hit by another vehicle that was going west on Greenwell Springs Road. The crash led to the closure of Greenwell Springs Road between Droze and Morgan Road for around three hours, Central PD said. Man in critical condition after single-vehicle accident in Central
BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) – An investigation is ongoing into an accident in the 12400 block of Hooper Road that injured one man on Monday, Feb. 10. The Central Police Department, East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office and Central Fire Department were called to the scene around 1:30 a.m. and initiated an investigation. According to Central Police Chief Roger Corcoran, a vehicle driven by a man was traveling east on Hooper Road when for unknown reasons it crossed the center line, left the roadway on the north side and went into a ditch. It then hit a culvert and flipped numerous times before coming to rest upside down. The male driver was extricated from the vehicle by the Central Fire Department and transported to the hospital by EMS. Hooper Road between Joor Road and Sullivan Road is closed due to the ongoing investigation. The Central Police Department and East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Fatality team and Crime Scene Division are conducting the investigation.
