IIT-H, Central Sanskrit University ink pact to boost cooperation, research

Hyderabad: In a significant move to enhance interdisciplinary research and foster academic collaboration, the Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IITH) and the Central Sanskrit University (CSU) in New Delhi have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at promoting mutual cooperation in the fields of Sanskrit, Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS), and technology-enabled research. The partnership merges IITH, a leading institution in cutting-edge research and innovation, with CSU, a central university focused on preserving and advancing Sanskrit and India's rich traditional knowledge systems. The partnership between both institutes of higher education will focus on academic collaboration in Sanskrit, Indian Knowledge Systems, linguistics, computational Sanskrit, Vedic sciences, philosophy, and related disciplines; exchange programs for faculty, researchers, and students to facilitate shared learning and collaborative research initiatives; organization of joint academic events, including workshops, conferences, lecture series, and summer schools; mutual access to academic and library resources, manuscript repositories, and archival collections; development and supervision of interdisciplinary research projects and programs that integrate traditional knowledge with modern technology. And regular exchange of academic publications, course materials, and research outputs to enhance the quality of scholarship and learning. Speaking on the collaboration's potential between the two, Prof B S Murty, Director of IIT Hyderabad, stated, 'This partnership with Central Sanskrit University (CSU) offers a unique opportunity to merge the depth of Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) with the innovation-driven environment of IITH. The Department of Heritage Science and Technology at IITH, in conjunction with CSU, aims to unlock new dimensions in research and education by engaging traditional wisdom in conversation with modern science and technology.' Highlighting the significance of the MoU, Vice Chancellor of CSU, Prof Shrinivasa Varakhedi, explained, 'This agreement marks a historic step in reviving India's knowledge tradition. We view Sanskrit not merely as a language but as a vast reservoir of scientific thought, profound philosophical insights, and a living embodiment of India's cultural and intellectual heritage.'

Tirupati: National Sanskrit University (NSU) Tirupati Vice Chancellor Prof GSR Krishna Murthy said that Sanskrit knowledge serves as a compass for modern society. He spoke at the Vice Chancellors meeting on the concluding day of the fourth Utkarsh Mahotsav (Festival of Excellence) programme, organised by Central Sanskrit University in Nashik on Tuesday. The Vice Chancellor recalled that topics such as 'AI' (Artificial Intelligence) in Sanskrit and the future of future generations through Sanskrit were also discussed at this event. Scholars have discussed Sanskrit academic knowledge in a grand manner during the Utkarsh Samaroh and a roadmap for the development of the Sanskrit language over the next five years was charted. He described the festival as a confluence programme akin to the Triveni Sangam (meeting of three rivers) of the three central Sanskrit universities. Prof Krishna Murthy also announced that the fifth Utkarsh Mahotsav will be organised at the National Sanskrit University, Tirupati.

1 2 Jaipur: The Jaipur campus of Central Sanskrit University (CSU) now offers an innovative LLB (Hons) course in Bharatiya Jurisprudence, enabling students to study the Indian legal system alongside Sanskrit. The course is taught in Sanskrit, Hindi, and English, depending on students' preferences. Launched last year under the guidance of vice-chancellor Prof Srinivasa Varakhedi, the program is rooted in the Indian knowledge tradition. Prof Sudesh Kumar Sharma, Director of the Jaipur campus, said, "This Jurisprudence course bridges traditional and modern thought, setting an ideal for society and the judicial system." The course integrates ancient Indian legal scriptures such as Yajnavalkya Smriti, Narada Smriti, Manusmriti, and Kautilya's Arthashastra, with modern legal frameworks including the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC). Officials said the program aims to instill human values, ethics, integrity, and a strong sense of justice in students. Applications are open until May 31, with the entrance exam scheduled for June 15. Results will be announced on June 30, followed by counselling and fee submission from July 2 to July 10.

1 2 3 Bhubaneswar: Odia students returning from Jammu and Kashmir spoke about the bravery of Indian armed forces and modern warfare that stopped drones and missiles fired by Pakistan. "The experience was very terrifying. But our armed forces saved the city and people from continuous drone and missile attacks. As family members were not there, we were feeling worried. University authorities and Odisha govt helped us return home," said Hena Mangal from Balasore, who is a student of Central Sanskrit University, student, Gitanjali Jena, said she had never heard of sirens or been in a war-like situation before. "Two of our exams were conducted on a single day. University authorities advised us to go home and arranged everything for us to reach Delhi. From there, our state govt took care of us," she Nayak, a student at the Central University of Jammu, said everyone was feeling scared on witnessing the drones. "While we were returning to Odisha, we heard that one fell in the backyard of our hostel," she students returned to Odisha by different trains. They got down at Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur-Keonjhar Road, and Jharsuguda. Local regional transport officers and police helped them with vehicles to go home. "Doing our bit to support those in need. Kudos to the commerce and transport department team for facilitating the smooth transit of students arriving from Jammu to their respective destinations across Odisha," said commerce and transport department secretary Usha Padhee in her X more students studying in Jammu and Kashmir and Uttarakhand are on their way to Odisha. Five Odia students stranded in Srinagar have appealed to the Odisha govt to bring them home.

1 2 3 4 5 6 Lucknow: In a major push to promote and popularise Sanskrit, trainers from UP will now impart conversational Sanskrit training in New Delhi. Reviving the Sanskrit language, the state govt, through the Sanskrit Sambhashan Yojana , has focused on teaching spoken Sanskrit to almost a lakh learners from UP and other states. Taking this initiative forward, more than 25 skilled Sanskrit trainers from UP have been invited to participate in a conversational proficiency workshop scheduled from April 23 to May 4 by Central Sanskrit University, New Delhi Renowned instructors from cities such as Lucknow, Mathura, Ghaziabad, Fatehpur, Kanpur, Gorakhpur, Meerut, Badaun, Agra, Shamli, Jaunpur, Jhansi, and others will take part in the workshop. Notable participants include Dheeraj Maithani (Lucknow), Radha Sharma (Mathura), Divyaranjan (Ghaziabad), Dr Satya Prakash Mishra (Gorakhpur), Savita Maurya (Lakhimpur Kheri), and Sonika Rani (Meerut), among others. "We have been invited to Delhi. This is a proud moment for us," said Radha Sharma, a trainer from Mathura. Because of this, people in UP are also learning Yoga, priestly rituals, and astrology through the Sanskrit Sansthan." Notably, the Saral Sanskrit Sambhashan Yojana was launched in 2017 under the guidance of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to bring Sanskrit to common people. This scheme teaches spoken Sanskrit through simple methods and interactive techniques. "Sanskrit Bharati has taken the initiative of 1008 Sanskrit Sambhashan Shivir (conversation camps). It is a matter of pride for us that teachers from UP have been invited to the conversation proficiency program organised by the Central University," said Dheeraj Maithani, training coordinator, Lucknow. Chairman, UP Sanskrit Sansthan Vachaspati Mishra said, "The Yogi govt is fully committed to promoting Sanskrit. Wherever our teachers are called, they are always ready to serve the cause of Sanskrit."
