Varanasi: Chief Minister
Yogi Adityanath
on Monday reviewed the preparations for the Central Zonal Council Meeting in Varanasi on June 24 which will be attended by Union home minister
Amit Shah
, chief ministers of four states and a delegation of officials.
The CM directed the officials concerned to complete all necessary preparations for the meeting.
The meetings of this committee used to take place in state capitals and this is the first time that the meeting is being held in a non-capital city.
Uttar Pradesh
hosted the meeting of this committee for the last time in Lucknow in 2018.
The event is likely to take place at a hotel in Nadesar area of the city. While Shah will chair the meet, Yogi will serve as the regional vice-president.
Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami, Madhya Pradesh CM Mohan Yadav, and Chhattisgarh CM Vishnu Deo Sai will participate in the meet.
Five zonal councils were set up in 1957 under Sections 15-22 of the States Reorganisation Act 1956, to discuss a broad range of objectives and matters related to security, infrastructure, power, forest and environment, education, food security, tourism, transport, and others.
The Union home minister is the chairman of each of the five zonal councils, while the chief minister of the host state is the vice-chairman. These councils also take up issues involving the centre and the states concerned.
