JLKM starts social media campaign for abducted workers in Niger
Ranchi: A digital campaign seeking safe return of five migrant workers from Jharkhand, abducted in South African country Niger, gained significant traction on X on campaign, spearheaded by Jharkhand Loktantrik Krantikari Morcha (JLKM), utilised the hashtag #bring_back_jharkhand_workers to urge swift action from the workers, Sanjay Mahto, Chandrika Mahto, Raju Mahto, Faljit Mahto, and Uttam Mahto hail from Giridih district and were employed by Kalpataru Power Transmission Limited in Niger. They were reportedly kidnapped on April 25 during an armed attack on their worksite. The incident has left their families and communities in distress, with no official updates on their vice-president Devendra Nath Mahto said, "We have brought this issue to the global stage. The central govt must take immediate action to ensure the safe return of our workers."He urged participants to tag the Prime Minister's Office, the Ministry of External Affairs, and other relevant authorities to amplify the president Jairam Mahato also joined the campaign, tweeting, "We are committed to bringing our workers back home safely. The govt must act now." His tweet further galvanised support, with many users retweeting and sharing the message to increase visibility. Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren too on April 27 appealed to the Union govt for its intervention to ensure the worker's safety.
