Kerry woman overcomes serious injury to inspire local teens through fitness

Roisin Clifford sustained the serious injury in 2021 and required a long and demanding rehabilitation process. During that time, she discovered a deep interest in health and fitness, which led her to pursue a career as a personal trainer. Her own transformation – achieved through regular gym work and weight loss – sparked a new passion. Now aged 27, she is a certified personal trainer and is putting her experience to work by supporting others on their fitness journeys. Roisin has teamed up with professional boxer and coach Darragh Keogh to host a teen fitness and boxing camp this summer. The camp, aimed at boys and girls aged 13 to 16, will run from Monday, June 30 to Thursday, July 3 at the Peak Performance Academy in Killarney. The programme will run daily from 11am to 1.30pm and will include a mix of boxing training, gym-based physical conditioning, and practical fitness education. The cost is €120 per participant, with bookings available by contacting 086 067 2939 or 087 247 0632. Roisin and Darragh are both based at the Peak Performance Academy, located in the Deerpark Retail Park. They have also worked closely with the Kerry senior football team at the Centre of Excellence in Currans and have provided strength and conditioning support to several GAA clubs across the county. Darragh, 30, is a qualified personal trainer and holds a degree in sports science. He enjoyed a decorated amateur boxing career in Australia, winning titles including the Australian Gold Coast and North Queensland championships in 2018, the Australian Golden Gloves in 2019, and the Australian Boxing Council Championship in 2021. He turned professional in July 2021 and remained undefeated in three fights in the super welterweight division. Since returning home to Killarney, he has focused on coaching and sharing his boxing skills with the next generation.
