Former Strasbourg defender Lucas Perrin on Auxerre shortlist
Lucas Perrin (26), who spent the second half of the season on loan at Cercle Brugge, is the subject of interest from AJ Auxerre, according to Mohamed Toubache-Ter. Perrin left RC Strasbourg Alsace last summer, with the Frenchman critical of the newly-instilled project at the BlueCo club. He was notably critical of the youth-centric aspect instilled by the new owners in Alsace. He therefore left the club on a free transfer upon the expiry of his contract. Advertisement He joined Hamburg but did not feature prominently before joining Cercle Brugge, who share the same owner as AS Monaco. There, he has found gametime easier to come by, playing 15 games in all competitions with the Belgian side. However, Toubache-Ter understands that he could now be set for a return to France. Auxerre were one of the surprise packages in Ligue 1, earning a comfortable mid-table finish having been heavily tipped for relegation. Perrin, whose loan at Cercle does include a purchase option, is a name being considered by Christophe Pélissier's side. GFFN | Luke Entwistle

Vincent Tan makes new appointment after relegation as Cardiff City fans given hope for change
Vincent Tan has made a swift and drastic decision at KV Kortrijk after their relegation, with the Belgian club set to appoint a new CEO sports after firing their one who oversaw a disastrous campaign. Tan has suffered the ignominy of overseeing two clubs getting relegated from the respective leagues, with KVK dropping out of the Jupiler Pro League and Cardiff City also suffering relegation from the Championship. On both fronts, Tan needs to act quickly and decisively in order to ready his clubs for promotion pushes next season. The Bluebirds owner is looking for managers for both of his teams. KVK boss Bernd Storck has sensationally left the club, following their defeat in the relegation play-offs, to take charge of Cercle Brugge for their relegation play-off decider against Patro Eisden to stay in the top flight. READ MORE: BBC Match of the Day pundit just disappeared from TV as he reveals new life READ MORE: Tony Pulis makes feelings clear on Cardiff City manager situation and what must happen next Given KVK were fighting against Cercle Brugge just last week in the relegation play-offs, and Storck has taken over for just these two games, it's a rather stunning set of circumstances playing out over in Belgium. Join the Cardiff City breaking news and top stories WhatsApp community As for Cardiff, their season tailed off under the management of Omer Riza, while interim Aaron Ramsey could not save the club from the drop, winning none of his three matches in charge, meaning City have now started what they believe is a rigorous process to find their own manager for the League One campaign. The club have appointed a sub-committee comprised of Mark Allen, head of academy Gavin Chesterfield and one external appointment from sports agency Wasserman to help conduct the search for a new manager. You can read about that in detail here. While some at the club want Cardiff to have a full-time director of football, or at the very least more football knowledge at the top end, Tan is understood to be reluctant. However there is hope that this is some comfortable middle ground which, if successful, could point the way towards a more permanent appointment in the future. Indeed, the structure of Tan's club hierarchy in Kortrijk is evidence that he is open to the idea of appointing such personnel. It is, unfortunately, also proof that these appointments are not a silver bullet and it must be the right person in the right position. Tan moved quickly to fire Pieter Eecloo, who held the position of CEO sports at KVK. Rik Foulon is the actual sporting director at the club, but worked closely with Eecloo to run the footballing side of things, with Tan and Ken Choo, who holds the position of managing director, overseeing things from a distance. According to reports in Belgium, Nils Vanneste is set to become the club's new CEO sports, helping to drive KVK's push for promotion from the Belgian second tier next season. Vanneste will join from Zulte Waregem, the club Joel Bagan spent a season on loan, where he was academy director. The 36-year-old previously held positions at KV Oostende and Beerschot. Cardiff fans have long called for the club to have a better sporting infrastructure and seeing Tan appoint a new person to run the football operation in Kortrijk at least offers some hope that the door is not completely shut on that front at Cardiff. Indeed, just this week, Cardiff chairman Mehmet Dalman said he would welcome the addition of more expertise in the field. "Overall, I would say I would welcome more knowledge on football," he added. "After all, this is a football club and the more people it has who understand football the better it is. We're striving towards that.' Bluebirds fans, as well as many within the club — Aaron Ramsey himself has spoken openly about the need for someone on the ground, running the day-to-day football operation — will hope that the sub-committee, coupled with Tan's commitment to a more rigorous-looking football structure in Belgium, perhaps represents a stepping stone in the right direction. Denkey wonder-strike keeps Cincinnati on track in MLS
The 24-year-old Togo international striker cost Cincinnati a club record fee of over $16 million when he was signed from Belgian club Cercle Brugge in January and he showed exactly why he was so highly rated with his stunning strike. After Kansas City failed to clear a corner, Luca Orellano crossed into a crowded area and Denkey leapt in the air and fired home the spectacular volley to put his team 2-0 up in the 78th minute. Denkey had opened the scoring in the 43rd minute, following up after Lukas Engel's left-foot shot had been parried out by John Pulskamp. KC pulled a goal back through a Zorhan Bassong blast in the 89th minute but Cincinnati held on for the three points. "There are not many words to describe what he did," FC Cincinnati head coach Pat Noonan told reporters about Denkey's wonder-strike. "It was one of the best goals I've seen in person, certainly." The seventh win in 10 games moves Cincinnati to the top of the Eastern Conference standings ahead of Saturday's later games and Denkey said the team are getting their reward for their efforts. 'It's amazing. We knew that we are a competitive team. What's working is the hard work, the focus, and the winning mentality we have every time we step on the field," Denkey told Apple TV. The Philadelphia Union are in second spot, three points behind Cincinnati, after they enjoyed a convincing 3-0 win over D.C. United. Norwegian defender Jakob Glesnes opened the scoring with a 15th minute volley before midfielder Danley Jean-Jacques doubled the lead with an emphatic strike seven minutes after the interval. Substitute Bruno Damiani added the third with a well-taken individual effort in the 77th minute. Noah Eile headed home from a corner as the New York Red Bulls defeated Montreal 1-0 while an Alonso Martinez penalty gave New York City FC a 1-0 win at Toronto. Later on Saturday, Orlando City host Atlanta United while in-form Charlotte take on the New England Revolution. In the West, newcomers San Diego FC are at home to Real Salt Lake and there is a Texan derby between Houston and Austin. Inter Miami face FC Dallas on Sunday.

The 17-year-old who could scupper Scotland's chances
Scotland take a hard-earned 1-0 lead into Sunday's second leg at Hampden Park, but no-one in their ranks is taking overall victory for were a much-improved side in the second half in Athens, in no small part thanks to the half-time introduction of 17-year-old Kostas teenager from Genk in Belgium was given his debut by manager Ivan Jovanovic and immediately helped swing the momentum in the home side's for Scotland, he could not quite create or score an equaliser, one curling effort clearing the crossbar by inches and his beautiful, teasing cross knocked on to the post by Christos exactly who is this Greek wonderkid? Well, actually, he was born in Belgium and has lived and played there all his short life. Born to Greek parents in Genk, joining their academy and quickly accelerating through the ranks to make his first-team debut at the end of last season as a 16-year-old substitute against Cercle Brugge, before starting for the first time in a win over Royal Antwerp two weeks season, he has been a first-team regular, starting 14 and coming on in another 11, mainly as an attacking midfielder and helping Genk to the top of the Jupiler Pro though, he was representing Belgium at youth level, playing for their Under-21s as recently as as Greek journalist Stephen Kountourou explained on BBC Scotland's Daily Football Podcast, there was a wrangle going on behind the scenes."We had to fight tooth and nail with the Belgian FA to stop him representing them and that was seen as a big coup for Greek football, because Karetsas is rated not just as a potentially decent talented player but as one of the big players for the future in international football," he Karetsas, whose idols include Neymar and Ronaldinho, there seemed to be little doubt as to whom he would represent at senior level."My heart beats only for Greece - my homeland fulfils me completely," he was quoted as was warmly welcomed into the fold by the Greek fans on Thursday and his performance was so impressive BBC Scotland's co-commentator James McFadden fully expects him to start at Hampden."I thought he looked really classy, composed, willing to take people on and, when he came on, he was their main outlet," he said. "They were just desperate to get the ball to him, so I think he comes straight into the team."Pat Nevin, working at the game for BBC Radio Scotland and Five Live, was similarly impressed."I thought he made a huge difference, probably the main reason the game changed massively in the second half," the former Scotland winger said."Chatting to Steve Clarke afterwards, he agreed the young lad is pretty special and somebody that needs to be kept a really close eye on." Karetsas relishing Robertson challenge Karetsas himself clearly does not lack confidence."Already, I feel like I belong in the national team. I'm really happy I made the decision to be here," he said afterwards."I was up against Andy Robertson. He is a very good player, but when I go one on one, I don't see who's in front of me."We lost, but we played well in the second half and that is how we have to play on Sunday in Scotland. I think, if we play like that, we will win."Trying to ensure that does not happen will be Craig Gordon, who acknowledged the threat his young adversary posed."He looked fantastic when he came on," the goalkeeper said. "He's someone we'll need to look out for in the second leg."I haven't seen many debuts like that from someone so young. It was an impressive first cap for him, but thankfully we managed to keep him out."We'll see what Sunday brings and he might get more minutes at Hampden. But I'm sure we'll have a plan to deal with that as well."McFadden does not believe head coach Steve Clarke will adapt his own game plan to deal with the teenager."I think you respect the fact he's a very good player, but it's Andy Robertson that's going to be playing against him," McFadden said. "I think, if you said to him, 'I'm going to get someone to help you with this young player', I don't think he'd be too happy."Nevin added: "I think he'll consider it, because if you don't consider it and he has a great game, you've made a mistake."I think it's more, don't change your entire attitude but be very aware, if it starts being a problem, you can adapt to it."
