Rangers placed on Vaclav Cerny red alert over Wolfsburg 'fire sale' as Cyriel Dessers makes transfer stance clear

Cerny enjoyed a superb campaign at Ibrox despite his team's struggles - registering 18 goals and nine assists in 52 matches Rangers' chances of signing Vaclav Cerny on a permanent basis have been boosted after parent club Wolfsburg's financial woes were revealed. The Czech Republic international caught the eye in his season-long loan spell at Ibrox, scoring 18 goals and nine assists in 52 matches for a Gers team that finished the campaign without a trophy. ‌ The 27-year-old is set to return to Germany later this summer for pre-season but reports in Turkey claim that Trabzonspor are preparing a £9million bid for the winger. ‌ However, Wolfsburg's latest accounts could suggest that the Bundesliga side will be forced to sell players on the cheap this summer. Die Wolfe had a disappointing season in 2025/26, finishing in 11th place - seven points adrift of the top half. Former Southampton boss Ralph Hassenhuttl took up the reins last summer but was sacked with two weeks of the campaign still remaining while the departures of club legend and managing director Marcel Schafer also caused further upheavel. ‌ The Volkswagen Arena side banked £40million from the sale of Micky van der Ven to Tottenham in 2023 but have since splashed out huge sums on the likes of Lovro Majer, Joakim Maele and Tiago Tomas. Cerny arrived in Germany from FC Twente in the summer of 2023 for around £8million and has scored five times in 25 matches for Wolfsburg. As reported by Braunschweiger-Zeitung, the German Football League (DFL) have now published the financial figures of each club in the top-flight from the 2023/24 season - and it doesn't make good reading for Wolfsburg. The accounts show that the 2009 Bundesliga winners have made a loss of just over €15 million (£12.63million), a staggering drop from the €118,000 (£99, 362) profit published in the previous calendar year. Wolfsburg's new managing director Michael Meeske added: "Despite higher revenue from marketing, a deficit was incurred. The balance sheet was also impacted by the transfer activities." Elsewhere, Gers frontman Cyriel Dessers insists he is happy at Ibrox and has shut down talk of a summer exit. The Nigeria international - who netted 29 goals in 55 matches last season - has been linked with a move to Greek Super League duo Olympiakos and AEK Athens. ‌ However the 30-year-old is adamant he won't be going anywhere and is looking forward to a break before reporting back to Auchenhowie for pre-season on June 30. Speaking to SportsBoom, he said: "I still have two years left on my contract with Rangers. It's a fantastic club, and I'm happy there. "When you score that number of goals, it's normal for other teams to show interest. I've seen the links with Olympiacos, but I don't know anything specific about that. "These kinds of rumours are normal, but for now, I'm staying focused and looking forward to enjoying my holiday in a few weeks."

Wolfsburg have made it clear they need to make significant financial savings for the new season and don't see Cerny as part of their long-term plans. And reports in Turkey have indicated that Trabzonspor have made their move and have started talks with the club. Trabzonspor manager Fatih Tekke has identified Cerny as his No.1 target for the new season after a disappointing campaign where they currently sit in seventh place and they were also hammered in the Turkish Cup Final by Galatasaray. Cerny made a big impression when he netted a double as Rangers stunned Fenerbahce in the Europa League in a 3-1 win in Istanbul in March. And Trabzonspor, who have two former Rangers stars in John Lundstram and Borna Barisic on their books, are desperate to land the 27-year-old. Another loan player to have recently departed Ibrox is Neraysho Kasanwirjo. He joined on a season-long loan from Feyenoord last season, but a terrible knee injury whilst on international duty for the Netherlands U21s derailed his chances at Rangers. He's posted on Instagram: "Wore the shirt with pride, even when injury kept me off the pitch. "Thank you for the trust, support and memories. Celtic fans react to Rangers boss Barry Ferguson's leap and Vaclav Cerny's water spray celebration after Hamza Igamane's Old Firm winner "Rangers family 💙" Meanwhile, it's believed American health tycoon Andrew Cavenagh who is behind the proposed Rangers takeover, is flying to Europe this week to meet potential candidates for the Ibrox hotseat. The club's chief executive Patrick Stewart, sporting director Kevin Thelwell and 49ers technical director Greitar Steinsson have been overseeing the search for a new manager. SunSport revealed Russell Martin is set to make a final pitch to become the next Rangers boss while Davide Ancelotti is also in contention. Rangers announce six first-team departures including Hagi and Cerny

Rangers have confirmed six first-team departures as they begin planning for next season. Three out-of-contract players – Ianis Hagi, Tom Lawrence, and Leon Balogun – are leaving for pastures new, while loan stars Vaclav Cerny, Rafael Fernandes, and Neraysho Kasanwirjo are returning to their parent clubs. Rangers confirmed the news on Tuesday. Balogun had earlier announced on social media that his second spell had come to an end. He made over 100 appearances for the Ibrox side over two spells between 2020-2022 and 2023-2025. Hagi joined from Belgian side Genk in 2020 and has scored 20 goals in 130 appearances during an injury-hit five-year spell that also included a period on loan at Spanish side Alaves. Wales international Lawrence signed for Rangers in 2022 and has scored 11 goals in 65 appearances. Cerny and Kasanwirjo joined on loan last summer. Czech winger Cerny became a fan favourite following a string of impressive performances while Kasanwirjo's campaign was hampered by a long-term injury. Fernandes joined in January but has been unable to make an impact in the first-team.
