IMD: Scattered to moderate showers in store till May 23
Pune: The city experienced scattered light showers on Saturday, but with less intensity than Friday's rainfall. The IMD said Pune could expect partly cloudy skies becoming generally cloudy towards afternoon and evening on Sunday, with thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds (30-40kmph). "We are witnessing pre-monsoon activity across various parts of Maharashtra, including Pune. These are typical transition period showers characterised by brief spells accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds," an IMD official said. The rainfall that was recorded in Pune from 8.30am to 5.30pm on Saturday showed NDA at 2mm, followed by Rajgurunagar (1.5mm), Haveli, Magarapatta, Daund and Talegaon (0.5mm each). The weather agency forecasted isolated to scattered light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds reaching 30-50kmph over Madhya Maharashtra, Marathawada and Gujarat during May 17-23, and over Konkan and Goa during May 17-20. Domestic help, accomplice held for robbery at Cong man's house
1 2 Jaipur: Two men, including a domestic worker, were arrested, Saturday for their involvement in a robbery at the Vaishali Nagar home of Congressman Sandeep Chaudhary . The suspects, Bharat Bisht (28) and Hari Bahadur Dhami (29), were caught near the India-Nepal border in Uttarakhand as they attempted to flee to Nepal. Bisht's wife Kajal and two other accomplices remain at large. Police are yet to recover the stolen cash and jewellery and continue to raid multiple locations. The robbery occurred on May 14 while Chaudhary's mother Krishna, wife Mamta, son Rajdeep and daughter Rajshree were at home. Bisht and Kajal, who were employed as domestic staff through a placement agency just two weeks prior, conspired with outsiders to commit the crime. Krishna and Mamta were allegedly drugged with sedative-laced tea before the gang looted the house. The suspects meticulously planned their escape. They walked half a kilometre from the residence before entering a rented Haryana-registered car parked in Hanuman Nagar to avoid being captured on CCTV. Kajal and another suspect followed in the car, helping the group flee the city undetected. Delhi court acquits 11 accused in 2020 riots case, doubts police witnesses
New Delhi: A court acquitted 11 people accused of looting a medical shop in Gokulpuri during the 2020 northeast Delhi riots, giving them the benefit of the doubt. Additional sessions judge Pulastya Pramachala noted that the core issue was the identification of the accused persons comprising the mob involved in the crime. The court observed that the two police witnesses, who were posted in the same police station, identified the photographs of the accused persons after a 10-month gap and appeared to be artificial eyewitnesses. According to Delhi Police, an FIR was registered in the case at Gokalpuri police station on March 3, 2020, based on a complaint of Mohammad Imran Sheikh. He claimed that his medicine shop was looted and destroyed during the riots on Feb 24, 2020. The prosecution alleged that the accused were involved in theft, vandalism and arson in some shops on the intervening night of Feb 24 and 25. The court pointed out that the investigating officer was said to know that the two police personnel were on duty at the spot, but he did not examine them. Three minor siblings charred to death in Motihari house fire
Patna: Three minor sisters were charred to death in a massive fire that broke out in their home under Darpa police station area in Motihari of East Champaran district on Thursday. A spark from a traditional stove suspected to have caused the fire that spread rapidly engulfing the entire hut, said police. The deceased children were identified as Muskan Kumari (6), Payal Kumari (5), and Santoshi Kumari (2), daughters of Rambabu Sah of Mathiya village. According to police, Rambabu's wife, Mamta Kumari, had come to her parental home with her three children around five days ago. It appears that around noon, while cooking food, a spark from the stove caused the fire that spread to the entire hut due to strong winds. Before the family could understand what was happening, the fire became uncontrollable and trapped their three children inside the house. After receiving information from locals, a fire brigade arrived at the spot and managed to control the fire after considerable effort. Circle officer (CO) of Chhauradano, Rishabh Singh Yadav, who arrived at the spot, consoled the affected family and oversaw relief and assistance efforts. Meanwhile, the police sent the bodies of the three children to a hospital for postmortem.
