Official: Italy U20 learn opponents in World Cup group stage
Argentina, Australia and Cuba will be Italy's opponents in the U20 World Cup group stage. The group stage draw for the U20 World Cup took place in Santiago (Chile) on Thursday, 29 May. Italy were in Pot 1 with host country Chile, USA, Korea Republic, Brazil and Colombia. The top two teams from each of the six groups will advance to the Round of 16, as well as the four best third-placed teams. The players making the Italy U20 squad include Como defender Fellipe Jack, as well as Genoa's Jeff Ekhator and Lorenzo Venturino. The latter scored a brace in the last game of the season against Bologna.

Casadei and Ruggeri earn first call-ups to Italy squad
March 14 (Reuters) - Italian midfielder Cesare Casadei and defender Matteo Ruggeri received their first call-ups to the national team squad when manager Luciano Spalletti named his 25-man list on Friday for next week's Nations League quarter-final against Germany. Casadei joined Torino last month from Chelsea where he signed as a youth player in 2022, making 11 Premier League appearances while also having loan spells at Reading and Leicester City. The 22-year-old, who played five Conference League games for Chelsea this season, has featured in Torino's five Serie A matches since his return to Italy, and Spalletti was there to witness his first goal for the club against Monza on March 2. Ruggeri, also 22, has already made 101 appearances for Atalanta and was named in UEFA's Europa League Team of the Season last term, after helping his side win the trophy. He will provide cover for the injured Federico Dimarco. The rest of the squad contained few surprises, with Lorenzo Lucca, who has made one substitute appearance for Italy, included amongst the forwards alongside Serie A's two highest scorers this season, Mateo Retegui and Moise Kean. The only other uncapped player is Fiorentina defender Pietro Comuzzo, who was called up last year but has yet to debut. Italy host Germany in the first leg on Thursday at San Siro in Milan with the return three days later in Dortmund. Casadei auditions in front of Spalletti: Italy national team hopes after first Serie A goal
Italy U21 star Cesare Casadei scored the first Serie A goal of his career during Torino's 2-0 victory away against Monza on Sunday, which was seen in the flesh by Italy national team head coach Luciano Spalletti, who could include the 22-year-old in his next Nations League squad. Casadei joined Torino in a permanent move from Premier League side Chelsea in January, having spent the last two years on the Londoners' books, but ultimately failing to break into the first-team picture under Enzo Maresca. He has lined up as a starter in each of Torino's last three Serie A matches, and got the first goal of his Granata career with a well-taken finish from the edge of the six-yard box against struggling Monza on Sunday. Casadei's goal against Monza was the first top-flight goal of his career in any country and his first in a league match in almost two years, dating back to a 2-1 Leicester City loss against Blackburn in the Championship on March 15, 2023, while he was on loan from Chelsea. In attendance for Torino's victory over Monza was Italy national team head coach Spalletti, according to reports from Sunday's report claims that the CT is considering handing the 22-year-old his first call-up to the senior national team for the upcoming Nations League quarter-final against Germany in March. Casadei has been a regular at every Azzurri youth level, and was particularly impressive with the U20 side, winning the golden ball and golden booth at the U20 World Cup in 2023.

Torino reach agreement with Chelsea for Cesare Casadei signing
Torino have reached an agreement with Chelsea for the signing of midfielder Cesare Casadei. The Athletic reported in the DealSheet on January 7 that Torino had made a bid for Casadei but that it had fallen below Chelsea's initial asking price of €20-25million. However, Chelsea revised their asking price to €15m later in the window, but wanted to include a sell-on clause of around 35 to 40 per cent. Advertisement An agreement has now been reached for a fee of €15m and sell-on clause in excess of 25 per cent, and Casadei underwent his medical with the Serie A club today (Friday). The 22-year-old has been tracked by teams across Europe in January, attracting interest from three clubs in Serie A, plus sides in La Liga, Ligue 1 and the Eredivisie. Chelsea favoured a permanent sale rather than a loan. He joined Chelsea's academy from Inter in 2022 for an initial fee of €15million (£13.1m; $15m), plus €5m in potential add-ons, and has made 17 appearances for the club. Casadei had a loan spell at Reading during the second half of the 2022-23 season and at Leicester City under current Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca during the first half of the 2023-24 campaign, before being recalled to Stamford Bridge in January. The Italy Under-21 international played six times in all competitions for Chelsea this season, with five of those appearances coming in the Conference League, and has not feature in the Premier League this term.
