Pharmacy fined RM50,000 over misleading price tag

KUALA TERENGGANU : A pharmaceutical company was fined RM50,000 by the sessions court here today for displaying a misleading price tag for goat milk products at its premises three years ago.
Judge Nazlyza Nazri ruled that Lau & Tan Pharmacy Sdn Bhd, represented by its managing director, Lau Tiam Kwee, was guilty after finding that the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt at the end of the defence case.
The company was charged with displaying a misleading price tag on the Purenat Goat Gold Milk Powder product. The shelf price shown to consumers was RM89.90 while the price on the sales receipt was RM91.90.
The offence was allegedly committed at the pharmacy in the Chabang Tiga Commercial Centre here at about 9.30am on May 25, 2022.
The charge was framed under Section 12(1)(a) of the Consumer Protection Act 1999.
Domestic trade and cost of living prosecuting officer Nur Amirah Mokhtar appeared for the prosecution, while the company was represented by lawyer Nurul Izzah Nazri.
