Turlock police arrest individual for arson in connection with grass fire
A person was arrested on suspicion of arson in connection with a grass fire that occurred in Turlock on Thursday , according to a Stanislaus Regional Fire Investigation Unit spokesperson.
The Turlock Police Department arrested the individual with the help of the FIU. Additional information was not provided.
Turlock Fire Department Battalion Chief Chad Hackett said the fire was in a vacant lot between Highway 99 and Countryside Drive, dought of West Tuolumne Road. There are shopping centers at the north and south ends of the lot.
Crews were dispatched about 3:30 p.m. There was a large column of smoke and additional personnel were requested, according to the battalion chief incident report. 'First arriving units found approximately 10 acres of grass known as light, flashy fuels burning at a moderate rate of spread,' according to a Turlock Fire post on Facebook.
Crews contained the fire at 17 acres in 30 minutes and were on scene for three hours putting out hot spots and doing mop-up. Turlock Rural, Denair, Keyes and Stanislaus Consolidated fire crews provided assistance.
No injuries were reported.
