Man gets life term for shooting nephew dead with illegal firearm in Kasganj

Agra: A 46-year-old man was sentenced to life imprisonment by a local court in Uttar Pradesh's Kasganj district for shooting his nephew dead over a dispute over irrigation of fields. Additional district govt counsel (ADGC) (crime), Sandeep Mishra, said the incident took place on April 10 in 2019. "Rambabu Singh, a resident of Hayatgadhi village in Kasganj, shot Jaikishore Singh, then 36, with an illegal country-made firearm. He suffered a bullet injury on his stomach and died during treatment," he said. The ADGC added, "Rambabu and his brother Chadrabhan Singh shared a tubewell for irrigating their fields. The tubewell had been broken down for a week. Rambabu asked his brother for the tubewell keys and said that after repairs, he would irrigate his field first, which led to an argument between the two. When Chandrabhan's son, Jaikishore, tried to intervene, Rambabu opened fire." Based on a complaint by Chandrabhan, an FIR was lodged at Dholna police station on April 11 under sections 302, 504, 506 of the IPC and relevant sections of the Arms Act. Rambabu was arrested the same day and a chargesheet was filed on June 17, 2019. During court proceedings, Rambabu argued that it was his first offense and sought minimum punishment. On Tuesday, the court of additional district and sessions judge in Kasganj, Anutosh Kumar Sharma, convicted Rambabu and on Thursday, he was sentenced to life imprisonment, along with a penalty of Rs 1,17,000. Failure to pay the fine will result in an additional year of imprisonment, the court said. Get the latest lifestyle updates on Times of India, along with Brother's Day wishes , messages and quotes !

Agra: A 24-year-old teacher of a coaching centre and his Class 8 student were found dead in a hotel room in Aligarh, in what police believe to be a case of suicide by poisoning, officials said on superintendent of police (ASP) Mayank Pathak said, "Chandrabhan (only his first name is available) was a BTech graduate from Mathura. He was employed at a coaching centre in Aligarh's Sarsol area, where the girl was enrolled as a student. The two had checked into a hotel near Khereshwar Square on Monday morning using false identities. Their bodies were discovered later in the night when a friend arrived to meet them."The ASP said, "Preliminary investigation suggests that opposition by families to their relationship may have prompted them to take the extreme step. Empty poison pouches were recovered from their pockets."A forensic team collected evidence from the hotel room and the bodies were sent for postmortem examination. Police said legal proceedings are underway and further action will be taken once a formal complaint is received.
